I agree, taking gun rights away from all of us veterans is a crappy idea. I deal with PTSD but I have No interest to harm good innocent people. I didn’t join the military an go to war to later come back and harm the people that I swore to protect and defend.

I can't sing Stephen Willeford's praises enough. This man was completely unprepared to face this gunman (he had no shoes, less than 1 magazine of ammunition, no body armor) and he confronted him anyways despite the shooter possessing body armor, tactical helmet and multiple weapons. Even though he was scared to death like any of us would have been, he confronted this evil man regardless. I'm pretty sure that's the very definition of bravery. I think the cops appreciate what he did most of all since they would have been the ones confronting the shooter if Stephen had not. Who knows how many police officers would have been shot if this gunman didn't panic and flee because of the FIBS factor. The shooter's past proves that government regulation is NEVER going to keep anyone safe and even the most obvious cases of mental illness can slip through the cracks.

@@BoogalooBoy Karl Marx was a Political Philosopher, no different than Jean Rousseau, Ayn Rand, or John Locke. They all have made observations on politics and how they affect economics and the lives of people + made predictions on how things would develop. People using the rhetoric of a particular philosopher out of context and to trick other people into supporting things detrimental to themselves is not the same as the philosophy itself. The Orwellian reference is good here, as doublespeak is exactly what you are referencing. The ideas of most popular political philosophers over the last 400 years all intersect at various points. Even Thomas Paine talked about distributing surplus wealth to help your fellow citizens as being a critical part of "civic duty" - a critical part of a free society.

KnifeHand03 : my EDC is a Beretta 92fs and its loaded with 18rnd mec-gar flush fit mags and has one in the tube (19 in the gun). I also carry 3 spares 18 rnd mags and all of them are loaded with Hornady +p critical duty rounds. My back up gun is a 14rnd bersa thunder 9 ultra compact. I can also mill a mag catch notch in the 92fs mags and use them in the bersa also. People can bash on bersa if they want to but this is a great all metal gun and is accurate as hell.

He also had to unlock his safe to get his AR15. Then literally grab a hand full of rounds and load a mag on the run. The amount of wasted time he went through because of safety Nazis and feminisation. I'm sure he has loaded mags now, lesson learned. Spring wear does exist, magazine build also has an effect. Still not a legitimate reason not to have loaded mags.

My late Dad and Uncle eere part of "The Greatest Generation" Veterans of WW II. They never discussed the war. Only ONE time did I see my Dad go off on a guy. The guy was talking to neighbors and a couple kids about WW II. Problem is he was never in the military! This upset my Dad that he was telling "war stories" when my Dad lost so many commrades! Regarding taking Vets rights? It will be a cold day in hades before this happens. Believe me there are a HUGE number of civilians that will step up and defend ANY vet! Well anyway glad to see you guys back!

You're right on the PTSD piece. When I was 12 or so my brother and I went for a ride with my grandfather. He had, unbeknownst to us, a small stroke and was involved in an accident in which a VW bug hit the side of his vehicle. My grandpa came to his senses (tragically he suffered a debilitating stroke later and was paralyzed to a degree for the rest of his life) and we exchanged insurance info, and even though no injuries were sustained I had an irrational fear of cars driving alongside my family's vehicles for months afterwards.

Thank you guys for having the courage and ability to voice your opinions in such an eloquent manner, it is very difficult to do this in California where conservative views are in the minority. I agree. But they're asserting that it was a Dishonorable Discharge. That is factually incorrect. I agree that he legally should have never been able to own a gun because of his conviction by a Court Martial and his conviction for DV. But he was never dishonorably discharged.

Federal law allows for suspension of gun ownership rights for a domestic violence conviction. The shooter was convicted of a DV offense and served 12 months in the brig. He was then discharged for bad conduct, not dishonorable...either way, he can't own guns and is not considered a veteran by the VA. Air Force screwed the pooch.

Not trying to defend a psychopath here. Just pointing out that he wasn't really dishonorably discharged. We need to be accurate when reporting the facts. Yes, it was a bad paperwork SNAFU on the part of the Air Force. Yes, he knowingly falsified documents in order to purchase firearms he knew would be denied otherwise. And thanks to the legally armed sheepdogs, he was stopped before the situation could have gotten much worse. Whether he succumbed to wounds or took his own life, justice was served. Good riddance. In my opinion, all good examples of the ineffectiveness of excessive regulations (i.e. Criminals will lie when asked "are you a criminal?"), and the need for an armed citizenry. Moral of the story? Gun Control Laws will not stop a criminal from getting guns to hurt people. Those same Gun Control Laws will quite possibly prohibit a lawful citizen from being armed and able to stop said criminal. That was Eric and Chad's main point, I believe.

He lied. That is crap. 4473 asks "I.Have you ever been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence? " He was given a year in the brig. HE LIED. That is crap. 4473 asks "f. Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution? (See Instructions for Question 11.f.)" He escaped from a mental institution after being court committed.

John Lloyd Scharf: Yes, he lied. Got it. Read my previous reply to Troy Clark. Not trying to defend him in any way. I'm just saying a "bad conduct" discharge is not the same as "dishonorable" and he could truthfully answer "No" to that particular question on the form. Technical details. OCD. Forgive me. It just goes to prove the idiotic 4473 doesn't really accomplish anything. If a bad guy can LIE when filling it out and there is no official record to show otherwise, then what's the point?

"Have you ever been convicted of a felony?"....conviction by courts martial is automatically a felony, regardless of the crime or sentence. "Have you ever been convicted of a crime in which you Could have been sentenced to more than a year in jail?...that means the max possible sentence for the crime, which DV easily falls under. "Have you ever been convicted of Domestic Violence?" "Do you have or ever had mental illness?" 4 lies on the 4473.

Tobi C. Just wanted to thank you for your opinion, personally I'm very much a small limited government conservative but I think there is lots of common ground between political groups if we focus on seeing things from another's point of view occasionally. I think liberal and conservative gun owners should work together to expand our sport and inform politely those around us who aren't familiar with firearms to bridge the divide (both real and perceived) between gun owners and the non gun owners

A yes, that one reason for the the 2nd Amendment. To all the people calling for gun control, I have a story to tell you. I have been with my Girlfriend for three years and for three years and I fought her stalker and I put my life on the line for her because I love her. If it was not for my training from the Police Academy and the ability to legally carry a concealed weapon with in my State and any other Sates that recognized my conceal carry license we would have been setting duck for him. He was trying to find me to kill me and kidnap my Girlfriend and at one time he came in to this county on his six month ban and had guns and the Federal Law did not stop him from having guns and trying to find me to try to kill me with them. I finely got the evidence on him in a double murder in Florida and he killed his self to keep from going to prison. A man has no greater love for a women when that man puts his life on the line for the women he love to free her from her stalker. For those that say the 2nd Amendment is not relevant in today’s time, me and millions of other people is proof that it is still relevant to this day. No hateful comments please.

Just a quick point of correction. He was not dishonorably discharged; he recieved a bad conduct discharge which is different. A bad conduct discharge does not disqualify someone from owning firearms. HOWEVER, the reason for the bad conduct discharge was his domestic violence conviction which IS disqualifying. When he lied on the 4473 it was about the domestic violence conviction, not about a dishonorable discharge

The only method to have your rights restored is via presidential pardon...which isn't likely to happen.
