@@echofoxtrotwhiskey1595 oh believe me, I know. I have to source parts almost every day as part of my job. I'm just saying the SCAR might be an expensive gun for civilian owners, but there's plenty in the military. They don't just throw a weapon out when a firing pin breaks, so the parts ARE available, just apparently NOT to civilians, even gunsmiths! If you spend a couple grand on a weapon, you should should in the LEAST be able to get some springs and a firing pin for it w/o sacrificing your first born.

@AliasSLH yes, but the metallurgy isn't exactly crucial for that particular part. Like stated, it's steel. The extra length makes up for the smaller diameter material. It is a crucial part, but that spring isn't going to break or cause a catastrophic failure there. Like when I used mine I put it in for the front sight/muzzle brake plunger. Again a part that doesn't require the "perfect" spring, just one that works, is steel, and fits. I wouldn't go using them for an extractor, firing pin, trigger, return spring, or other more crucial parts of a weapon.

Unfortunately that’s not how supply and demand curves work. Generally more expensive parts have lower demand, which causes lower parts availability. That’s the point of the video do research to understand parts cost and availability. Funny enough I recent opted out of buying a SCAR just for these reasons, that and the rental at the range I go to went bad after 12,000 rounds, like gun has to be destroyed failure.

I keep an AR15 first aid kit. I have everything in there for my AR’s. Firing pins, recoil springs of different stiffness, different weight buffers, complete lower parts kits and upper parts kits, crush washers, and shims. Everything for them and the accessories I put on them. It’s a lot to have. Given a stripped lower and upper And I could easily build three rifles from the parts I have. I’m currently working on AR9 style and glock pistol first aid kids. I don’t have lots of different types of fire arms but the ones I have usually use interchangeable parts which helps.

That's a smart way to do things. Similar to having several guns that use the same caliber! I do the same thing. Even with HUNDREDS of "extra parts" drawers labeled, it's IMPOSSIBLE to stock everything for every gun. People come in our shop all the time and get miffed when we don't have the part for their specific weapon. Like a Gunsmith shop is an auto parts store for every car ever made.

When I was 18 and buying my first ar15 at a sportsman warehouse, the guy behind the counter recommended I pickup a small fishing box and getting a few extra parts, he rung me up for a lower parts kit, 12x10 fishing box and a windham ar15 for 750. Got a really bad malfunction where brass had actually damaged the gas tube and would cause the bolt to stick in the last 1/4in of travel. I popped open my little box, nabbed my spare mid length gas tube popped that bitch in once the gun cooled a bit and she’s good as new! Best advice I ever got.

24:32 Thank you ! Part of the reason I settled on the Glock 19 (I have multiple guns and a few spare loose spare parts) for my "bad day" handgun was I kept looking at it and figured out this model was pretty easy to get most of the parts for. Realistically I can't afford to keep spare parts for everything, so I settled on three platforms (the AR15, the Glock 19, and the Ruger 10/22) I keep spares for, hoard magazines for, etc. I probably need to have more springs on hand. But I figure with what I have, I realistically have a lifetime supply of parts if I cannibalize.

Agreed on the CZ parts support. I lost a carrier plunger on a CZ 712 Target G2. After a quick email to CZ asking for just the specific plunger part, I received a fully assembled trigger group, which included the part I lost, after only 7-10 days - - at no charge. That customer service experience directly impacted my thought process when I was looking for a new mid-size 9mm. I now own a very nice CZ P10C (optics-ready, and made in Kansas City KS). Parts service (and client service) matters. Thank you Eric and Chad for bringing this up.

This is one problem with owning firearms in the UK is the lack of spares available for some firearms and guns seems some bring in firearms and guns to be sold without thinking what people will need in spares in the future.

For my AR I'm extremely impressed with my Geissele Super Duty. It's an amazing rifle and worth $2,200!! My Springfield Saint Victor B5 is alright but it's certainly not in the same league as the Geissele. Plus the Geissele trigger is fantastic!!

I bought a 6.5 grendel upper from bear creek Arsenal and the extractor broke after 60 rounds! I didn’t know how to fix this myself at the time so I had to send it back to them and they had it for 2 months before I got it back! I couldn’t believe it. I emailed them several times but they were in no hurry. That or they had so many repairs that they couldn’t touch mine for a long time. My cousin bought a 7.62x39 upper from them and the firing pin wasn’t striking the primer hard enough so he had to have it repaired too. I won’t buy from them again

I lost the plunger spring on an m&p while changing the rear sight, they'd only replace it if I sent it to them. I'm not sending a pistol all across the country to replace a one cent spring. Also lost a safety spring for an AR, called 9 stores in my area and nobody had a replacement.

bought a Winchester XPR 300 win mag had a primer pop which damaged the bolt. Just wanted a new bolt, would have had it checked for proper clearance. They wouldn’t sell me a new bolt. Wanted me to buy a new rifle. It was just the bolt extractor but that was part of the bolt assembly.

I love cool and oddball guns but I've had my fill of unavailable repair parts. I hardly ever shoot my Sig556R because I cant get parts if something breaks. And Ive already had a firing pin break in it which took 6 months to get a replacement from Sig. Just one example. I tend to stick to ARs for regular shooting just for that reason.

I have an old French 1935s pistol and it was a pain to find just a firing pin, because the last one shot out when the safety was selected. I think the firing pin retaining pin broke (not sure, can't find a schematic for it), but as long as its always on fire it'll be fine

Carbon Xpress won't sell end user's strings and cables for their crossbows. You have to go to a repair shop and have the repair shop order from them. I bought some third party ones for it to have as a spare. Ridiculous though. I just wanted to have a spare set around just in case.

Luth-AR has basically no customer service. They sold me 2 stripped uppers through Primary Arms which were out of spec. They will talk to primary arms but they won't talk to me. I installed the same parts on a BCM upper and my build works flawlessly. Having "parts support" doesn't matter if a company doesn't even have "customer service" through which to implement that support.

Sounds like the problem I ran into with my Ruger P95DC, when the barrel link wore out. Barrel and guide rode, seem to be made if Unobtuainium. I ended up buying two of them, one an S, with safety, the other a DC, with damaged frames, and turning them.into part's.kits. I also found something out regarding older Rossi revelers, certain S&W revolver parts interchange with their Rossi clones. A S&W model 10 hammer, or the floating firing pin, on the Rossi hammer, which is prone to breaking, can be replaced with the S&W pin, if the same design, which has a better hear treat. Dound that out with the Rossi 941, I bought when I started working in armed security, back in 1998. Ingot the pistol dir $50, BECAUSE of how hard it was ri to get a replacement pin, from Rossi, at the time. Cap and ball revolvers, you can find parts replacement kits these days, but it was once a PITA to find things like trigger springs, and other small parts. Even Colt didn't carry most small parts, and CVA was hard to get in touch with. Don't even get Ms started on finding IJ and H&R revolver parts these days. Took a month find a place willing to sell more than 2 Safety Automatic hammer springs.

What about faulty parts? When you get a second faulty part that prevents proper firing of the weapon.
@Gottaculat
@Gottaculat 4 жыл бұрын
That's actually a good point. Perhaps buying spare parts and never running them for about 100 rounds is as foolish as buying a firearm and never taking it to the range, just assuming it'll work. Might be a good idea to have your parts kits contain only used parts. When my dad served in Vietnam, he told me they did "preventative maintenance" on just about everything, from guns to Jeeps to artillery and helicopters. They would replace parts early, and often keep the replaced parts as spares. Better to have an used spare than a faulty new replacement part with no spares. The one exception I know of were artillery barrels. They would destroy those after so many shots due to barrel wear, and destroying them means the enemy couldn't re-purpose the barrels into IEDs (though back then, IEDs were just lumped in with "booby traps," and not even a term).
