Recently we've started to see core caliber pricing start to trickle back down across the board, is this an indication that supply is getting ahead of demand? Will we see prices keep coming down for other calibers as well in the coming months? We discuss these topics and more in this Gripe so stick around.

If people won’t buy it, the prices go down. As long as some dummy is willing to spend a dollar and fifty cents for one 22LR round, the retailers will sell it as such. as a worker at one of the major brand ammo companies, you are pretty much spot on when you speak of the planning and scheduling of machines, also what gets run due to popularity of the item, also material is getting harder to get, and keep in good supply mainly good lead, brass and copper, there has been a 5-15% increase in production cost being passed down to the customer as of the 1st quarter of 21. ammo seems to be getting more plentiful and prices are starting to drop some but not near fast enough.

It's doubtful that most manufacturers were making ANY hunting ammo skews this cycle. Why shut down a press and retool for 30-30, 30-06, 444 marlin etc when they are feeding the 9mm monster demand, and 223 / 308 and the more common skews.

.223 is going for $0.60 per round. 9mm is going for $0.40 per round. 7.62x39 is going for $0.50 per round. .308 is going for $0.75 per round. I wouldn't say the ammo situation is getting better because I can't afford any of it and I refuse to buy extremely overpriced ammo.

talking to a few gun shop owners here in Fla, seems as if the gun sales have slowed to the point distributors are tying ammo distribution to gun distribution, for example, if the local gun shop wants X rounds of 9mm, they must also buy X firearms. Basically the local gun shops are breaking even on firearms and must make their $$$ on ammo

As someone stationed in Alaska the more prominent loads were .44, 10mm (hard cast or bear loads), .45, and 45-70. I’ve seen a lot of green tip and 9mm up for grab’s very recently. I was able to snag green tip XTAC 5.56 for 11.34 a box on base. Ive been buying boxes like that for the last month. I have yet to see any .22 ammunition including .22 WMR. I believe I’ve stocked up plenty but I know many who think $11 for 20 rounds of green tip is still exuberant for what it is.

I went to a local bass pro in canada. They used to have an entire set of shelves with ammo. 25 feet long double sided. They only had part of one side 4 foot of shelf with ammo. Its crazy. The funny thing is the real gun stores still have plenty but people think bass pro is the only seller.

@@saltcreekammo Its almost the opposite. I think basspro canada isnt getting any ammo from basspro corporate because ammo is selling for way higher in the US. The local stores still have tons of ammo and primers and powder. The smaller stores need to order their own stuff (with less purchasing power) but dont have a corporate agenda and distribution. When I saw the US prices going all weird I went to the store and bought 500 9mm for $165cdn. Now its $220 cdn. It never did get crazy although the choice in powders is a bit garbage. But when I look at local online buy sell sites people are asking american prices for ammo which shows they have no idea about prices at the real gun stores. Its a weird separation. The same guy who is using a dedicated gun buy sell site but has no idea of the prices at real gun stores. Of course there are people trying to get rich selling garbage to stupid people. One part of the law states that rim fire and percussion stuff isnt fire arms so dont need a license. This is cool if you want to buy an 1861 army clone. That would make some sense. But the prices of junk firing 41 rimfire and even more obscure rounds have shot way up. The people who buy dont have licenses so dont know that the obsolete rimfire stuff is next to impossible to find and is 10 dollars or more a round and 130 years old. Its weird times. Its good to see the rioting is less and ammo prices are coming down. If kenosha ends well then things should be a lot better... after the inevitable riots.

I normally go thru 10-15 rounds a year on my 308 ammo. ( Saturday used 3 rounds in my Savage to check zero), the rest for hunting. My shotgun slugs are. 500 grain, considerable more led than my 150gr 308 ammo. In a IDPA match, it is easy to go thru 120+ rounds of ammo. I will continue to but ammo as I can, regardless what in in the safe. Lastly don’t forget the inflated federal tax on new ammo (11%)

(speaking as an industrial control systems expert) US Inflation and scarcity of materials will not allow reduction in prices. Raw metals are more expensive and harder to obtain. Supply and demand availability/pricing is not only occurring for the final products (how much ammo is reaching customers) but for the raw materials (how much raw material is reaching manufacturers). Copper prices have skyrocketed as an example. Barrel steel is also becoming more scarce.

Awesome video, couple things to remember: nominal wages are going up more or less in line with prices in general (which is what you see in ACTUAL monetary inflation), inflation is bad for seniors on fixed income but you have to remember that inflation destroys debt arithmetically. As inflation goes up the real realized value of debt goes down, so if you have student debt you should be somewhat happy to see inflation. Deflation is reaaally bad because the real value of debt increases and that’s what happened in the 1930s depression (It’s called a debt deflation and it’s reaaal bad)
