I fricken miss Barry so much! One of those cool old gun guys that's always a pleasure to listen to. The power tool analogy is perfect. I remember first week of shop class the teacher was showing us Band saws, belt sanders, etc. I was in 7th grade and I was honestly freaked out but once I learned what not to do and how to properly use the machinery it was no big deal. But man did my teacher have some crazy stories about kids jamming their hand into a belt sander or cutting their fingers off with a band saw....again a healthy fear is always nice...

+nateo200 When I was in my 20s I briefly worked in a factory where I worked on a drill while wearing loose gloves. After a few hours one of the more experienced guys saw me and freaked out. At any time, the glove could have gotten caught in the drill and dragged my hand into the mess. I had not been properly trained to use that tool and might have easily lost my hand.

Rotating machines and gloves, or anything loose for that matter, is a big no-no. My old shop teacher back in third grade liked to tell us a storie about a girl who got her hair caught in the lathe.

Yeah, when I was a kid we usually had a kid get hurt or do something stupid once or twice a year. My favorite? The kid who stuck his dead between the railing poles :D Fire Department had to come and assist with cutting the poles! A couple of kids got their skin ripped off their hands or cut up pretty bad from screwing around. I wonder if the kids are even allowed near the band saws or belt sanders anymore without direct supervision, everyone is super protective now. My shop teacher was the most overqualified teacher ever, was Deputy Superintendent of the District for a couple of years, taught us like he was taught "back in the day", was an engineer with a degree from an Ivy league school and was a few credits away from his 2nd PhD!! My dad's boss had to leave early once, my dad asked if everything was alright and apparently one of her kids cut off a finger :O he had it re-attached, healed fine. Some punk decided it would be "funny" to plugin and turn on the band saw while he was cleaning it -_- We've got some ace surgeons and physicians where I live thank God! They work directly with our Paramedics often and some moonlight as overqualified EMT's!!! Most places have troubles with getting permission to use narcotics but in my town you can't throw a stone without hitting a doctor and they often work as EMT's or ride in the ambulances. Saved my buddies life, once. Bad traffic accident and Trauma Surgeon was behind him, got to my buddy 10 minutes before Paramedics and 2 minutes before State Troopers

I love these guys. I just recently bought my 1st two guns shortly after discovering their channel and going with their recommendations for guns, following two break-ins at the same house in my neighborhood (scaring my wife half to death). Then I found out they're only 20 miles from me, so I had planned to go out there to do some shopping and meet these two guys, but then I saw an RIP Barry video. I don't know these guys personally, but I was really crushed. These guys are very likeable, knowledgeable of their craft, and seem to be generally good guys. I'm still going to visit the shop and get a few toys, but I do regret that I took too long (years) to convince my wife to allow guns into the house; I would have found these awesome guys sooner on KZfaq, and went to their shop before Barry passed away. It's always the good guys that get taken way too soon.

not all so called gunsmiths are competent. a gunsmith in my area that is suppose to be one of the best checked out a Ruger PC40 that I had a squib load get stuck in the barrel and cause I was wearing hearing protection I didn't notice it and fired another round behind it bulging the end of the barrel. it still grouped well and function after I had the gunsmith check it out and tell me it was fine, but when I got the money I sent it to Ruger for a new barrel and found out the receiver was cracked also.

I remember reading that it was a good idea when testing a semi auto weapon of unknown condition to only load small amounts of ammo to begin with, say 1 round then 2 rounds and slowly working your way up so that if it malfunctions you limit the amount of problems if it starts to runaway. Also great video always good to learn new things.

In that special case, he probably loaded the full magazine to see if that thing works properly. I mean the whole feeding process, and he might have used the hand crank option to load it. It definitely makes sense to load only partially to testfire. Overall, those Calico are very unreliable if not it perfect condition from the factory + operated with juuust the right ammunition to cycle properly. It's a stupid gun and I still want one. They were at least crazy enough to try something different at that time.

I always load 2 or 3 in any semi til I'm certain it functions the way it should, have done since a friend of mine bought a used 12 gauge Remington 1100 that some asshole had modified to fire full auto for some reason. I have a clay chucker, so he called me to see if I wanted to shoot a little with him, and off we went. His first go-round, he fired and it kept right on til it emptied all 5 or 6 in it (I can't remember which). It almost got completely away from him, pretty scary.

@@johnsmith-sp6yl I've seen all parts up to now. I want this to work. I wonder if they'll start a craze and make them again. One point of improvement could be a small dial showing the number of turns. The next step would be to test different ammunition and firing laying on the side or upside down to check the downward ejection.

When i was in basic, using a crappy m-16, i experienced all kinds of malfunctions. Stove pipes, failure to eject, failure to feed, magazine failure, premature fire, failure to fire, premature magazine ejection, and my favorite Hang fire. Point is, *CLEAN, CLEAN, AND C L E A N* and of course inspect.

@hetrosexualwhopper4088

ZIGMAN775 Actually no. Mags were decent, we were issued filthy weapons to begin with and we weren't allowed to detail strip them to clean all the small parts (completely understandable) but sadly thats where all the filth was, was in the trigger, the magazine release. Not to mention we were (in 2013) using weapons manufactured in the late 80's early 90's that have hundreds of thousands if not millions of rounds through them and were most likely out of spec and never refurbed. Broken ejection port cover springs were the biggest problem though. I forget what exactly caused the mag failure (probably not broken in yet, as they were brand new never been used)
@ZIGMAN775
@ZIGMAN775 8 жыл бұрын
Jacob Harris I see, I didn't know it was like that. Very interesting, not a terrible thing I suppose it's only going to make you more familiar with failures, so when you do go to fight with a nice weapon when it fails it will be instinct.
@hetrosexualwhopper4088
@hetrosexualwhopper4088 8 жыл бұрын
ZIGMAN775 Yes. There were a few good rifles but most were mismatched parts. The army even even has ar 15's that were stripped and converted. I know that because despite it being full auto and configured as an m4 it was stamped ar 15. The issues weren't too bad as long as the weapon was stripped and cleaned spotless everytime it was fired. So i did manage to qaulify.

I'm glad you guys covered this. It's not always the gun though. I watched a guy fire repeated squibs from a Draco loaded with gun show reloads. Myself and others headed for the hills, I even grabbed the QuickClot and Israeli Bandage from my range bag. A lot of words were exchanged and the guy was escorted of the property and some cool headed soul confiscated his little box of duds. Folks, be safe, know what you're doing, if a round doesn't sound right it ain't right!

I don't mind the occasionally missed video you guys put out quality videos, and quality information. So even if you guys had one vid a month, I'd still be subscribed and wouldn't dream of dropping it. I'm looking now into Trying to come down there and visit y'all. Have a great week, and God bless.
