@@godslayer1415 Sammy was asked to come in and audition and got the gig. You want to blame anyone blame Eddie, and for Gary Cherone too...But both Sammy and David made great music. But Eddie got to be more Eddie with Sammy since David wasnt trying to be so David. Sammy knew who the star was, David thought he was the star. One album later he was MIA while VH was still topping charts. More songs than with Dave. David Lee Roth has an estimated net worth of $60million. Sammy Hagar has a net worth of $150 million. What a joke. A joke that gave VH longevity and lots more $$$.

I like the music Van Halen made with both singers, but for me I don’t see where all the hype about Sammy came from, because his solo career wasn’t great ,that music never did anything for me , he had one hit I can’t drive 55, and he didn’t gain any real commercial sucess untill he joined Van Halen, and he was inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame as a Van Halen member,maybe got a little recognition from Montrose,i love him he seems like a cool dude his personality and character is awesome , I follow him after his music career even, but I respect him as a person and what he’s accomplished in life and his career,I just didn’t think his music was all that great before Van Halen

Dude Duff is the most underrated bass player and I don't know why?! The bass lines are genius in GnR! The bass lines are all over the place but still in timing and sound with the band, especially with the drums!!!!! Seems to be a great guy!
@dougman23
@dougman23 Жыл бұрын
It's almost like a 2nd melody line. So many writers in the band putting pieces in that take multiple listens, and Duff might be the best. The bass line that starts Sweet Child is the part I hum, not the guitar.
@rm5157
@rm5157 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I've been playing bass since 1984. My original influence was Geddy....but after Appetite For Destruction was released, Duff was a new hero! Underrated...underestimated....and underappreciated. I find bass players are looked over all the time in general because people aren't geared to listen for it in the mix. I get it. But it sucks when the work they put in...which generally holds the song together...is seemingly panned by everyone and they don't hear what's actually going on back there. Duff rules.

Saw G&R on one of their tours, I think they called it "Not in this lifetime." I could not believe how hard they worked! Duff played and looked like the most grateful man on the planet. Superb show. You know how, at the end of a concert, the audience still wants more after the final encore? This audience had nothing more to ask. Guns left EVERYTHING on the stage and in the air. We were as wrung out as the band. Could not ask for anything more. Quite a contrast to when I saw them touring Appetite, back in the 80's. Aerosmith opened for them. Newly reinvigorated, clean Aerosmith. Guns looked & played like 50 year old junkies, while the recovered, 50 year old junkies ripped it up with the energy of teenagers who had the chops of journeymen. That contrast stuck with me. So great to be able to take my 20 year old son to see one of Rock's great bands, playing their best.

I'm an alcoholic. I read Duff's book when I was 29. At that point I was binge drinking on a regular basis, but never thought this would happen to me. When I was 32 I woke up one morning in excruciating stomach pain. I remembered Duff's story. Had to call a cab to take me to the hospital. It was severe pancreatitis and I spent 15 days at UCSD Hospital, three in ICU. They let me out with a bottle of morphine pills and a 30 day script. Got addicted to those. I was able to get another script from a clinic. When they ran out, I started drinking again. Then, back to the hospital. This went on for almost 3 years. Thirteen times in the ER. I was hooked on both. When I was about to run out of the pain pills again, I went to a head shop in Ocean Beach and asked a girl there if she had any herbs for opiate withdrawal. She introduced me to Kratom. It worked.

I had no idea I was about to see the singer from Montrose. During the concert Sammy Hagar sat down on the edge of the stage with a steel guitar & when Bad Motor Scooter started I finally realized what I was seeing & hearing & I was in euphoria. It was great.

@@michelleper5065 Yarkon was probably that period I'm talking about. For Duff and GnR, the mid '90s was a shitshow. A normal week would have consisted of not showing up for rehearsals or the show. The intake/outtake of bandmembers on a extremely high rate of whatever. Diva like outbursts over nothing. The release of maybe one or two good songs via the Spaghetti Incident. I have a feeling that their level of playing today is thanks to that period because if they could stand upright after that amount of drink or drugs and still find the notes, that was an achievement. To any of the youth who disbelieve me, I was there. Look it up, it really was worse than what I'm describing.

There is a guy named Grant that lives here in my home town... He used to be a part of some recording associated with Duff, he commented to me that Duff was one of the nicest guys in the whole world 🌎...
