Guppy Riparium Patio Pond (No Filter Low Tech)

I've been thinking about adding a new patio pond to the lineup for a while now. The other ones were cool, but I recently dismantled them to make space in the animal room. I wanted to make this simpler though.
I personally think it's a great no filter low tech solution that's really easy to make. What do you think?

Just make sure its somewhere where the water temp stays a steady temp a keep near a window not directly in front off to the side so when the sun goes down it isn't a huge change an invest in good bacteria. You can also get solar pumps an bubblers as well for water flow. ♡
@MrsBJPalmer
@MrsBJPalmer 3 жыл бұрын
It's so much fun to have these, and some with little waterfalls! It's easy too- just a little low flow aquarium pump to move the water, very inexpensive! (Less than $20!) Best of luck if you try this! You'll want more than 1, LOL!
@abalczon
@abalczon 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't require a lot of care compared to a lot of other aquatic environments, but don't just assume it's zero maintenance. Make sure it's not directly in the sun for long periods of time because you will get algae growth, maintain temperature, and some movement in the water from a small powerhead would also be a good idea. Be sure to still do small water changed periodically because there still are some elements that can build up from replacing evaporated water over long periods of time. Check your pH, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphorus, etc still to be sure it's all in balance.

Are you allowed to collect from the wild? If yes, look at nature around you. Use local marginal plants, and add local wetlands fish / minnows, etc. For the winter you can surround with hay bales and put a thermal window on top to prevent freezing, or drop a horse trough heater in to keep one spot clear of ice, or use an insulated pond so that freezing water on top won't bust the pond. Best of luck!

It's a neat system, but I'd think an airstone (or two, depending on the size) would be pretty good just to aerate the water a bit - especially as the plants are mostly bog/terra-types and not inside. Tho with little livestock it won't be much a problem (unless they breed uncontrollably lol)

That's so beautiful. You've done a great job, those little fish will be quite content living there. I also really like the music, it's soothing.

I love this! Perfect for a beginner like me. I love that you used a philodendron. Would all/most philodendrons work as semi aquatic?

Philodendron and pothos, and sweet potato, believe it or not, are all great for this.
