Guppy still out here with that annoying little sister energy 😹
Since I know some people will be concerned about how we introduced these two, Guppy and Billi have lived together before, and we still work on their relationship. It’s important to walk the line between too much and too little intervention, especially with a cat like Guppy that thrives on getting a response 😹

Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 14 years old, her favorite word is mad.
Inspiration for learning to “speak” with buttons from Hunger4Words (check her out on IG).

When our then 11yo cat got a new kitten roommate, the kitten had to start with the idea that kittens get the leftovers. Her majesty wasn't used to sharing food and likes to eat a bit, do a small walk and return to eat. When the kitten ate from the wrong plate, her majesty would look at her humans to ask them to do something about that. The kitten did grow out of the need to eat everything eventually.

@@sonjavilenius8976 That's not unusual, even in the wild; in a lion pride, even though the females make most of the kills, they almost always defer, and let males eat first; it gets weird when, rarely (but it happens) , a pride loses all males, then the senior females may have a confrontation...and their priorities regarding cubs can shift...little ferral cats have similar challenges...

Guppy is absolutely making power moves on Billi. Females living together need to establish a pecking order and will periodically test the limits to try and move to the top. Guppy was joyfully tap dancing on Billi's last nerve, reveling in being an annoying little brat. This is honestly the textbook dynamic between a grumpy older cat and annoying younger cat: the older one is chill until the younger one pushes the boundaries a little too much, at which point the elder becomes instantly ready and willing to bap-bap-bap the younger cat into the middle of next week for their crimes!

One thing I learned quickly after having two cats: They can be INCREDIBLY passive aggressive lmao. Lots of pettiness. Like jst being weird little stalkers by constantly shadowing the other cat, or stealing their favorite sleeping spot when they get up for something, etc. it's hilarious to watch.
@tropezando
@tropezando Жыл бұрын
"Weird little stalker" is the perfect way to put it. I had a cat who liked to stand in line behind the others at a food bowl and tap them in the butt to make them finish so he could eat the food. He'd do the same when he wanted to take their cozy spots, progressing to laying half on top of them if they stubbornly refused, which usually did the trick. He also liked to calmly walk up and headlock any of the others who yodeled down the hall in the early morning, in a move we called The NatGeo.

That's a perfect description. We are a shared household and I brought my tomcat (and his sister, but she passed two years ago ;_; ) in and my friend two other cats (two brothers). They generally... get along well enough (ignore each other and sleep butt-to-butt) but my tomcat and one of the other tomcats have this "difficult" relationship. My tomcat is a rather scaredy cat, has been since he was a tiny kitten and has this tendency that for no reason at all he marks one person/cat his "arch enemy" (not to attack, but to randomly run away / "flee" when he sees them); he did it over his life with several ppl he was cuddly with before and after a time, but at one point he did it with Bon. But Bon is one of those "laid back" cats... For several years now, the situation is my boy having one of his 'adrenaline' moments with Bon, and he growls at him and/or "flees" and Bon keeps following him (which makes it worse). My friend keeps defending her boy, and to a degree I agree (my boy *is* a drama queen). But I also try to explain how Bon following him around is not helping the situation de-escalate. Because, while Bon is not outright attacking or the initial cause of these situations (only few exceptions), his stalkey behavior (my friend defends it as "curious", but after years of this, that explanation falls a bit flat) ....well, as you've put it, it's a(n intentional) passive aggressive response. We usually let it play out (and Bon eventually gets bored) because I do not want to affirm by cat's mind-set in those moments, when there clearly was no reason (there're ways he can still retreat and Bon truly isn't actively "doing" anything) but we do separate / distract them when it gets too bad. Usually an hour or two later we find them sleeping peacefully butt-to-butt again. So, no real hard feelings XD But yeah, "passive aggressive little stalker" very much is a term that nails Bon's reaction to my drama queen / scaredy cat. ...speaking of, does anyone else have a cat that does what my boy does? Randomly selecting a person or other animal as their personal enemy no1? Like, my cat's been doing it even with me for a few times, absolutely no previous cause, only to be back to normal a short while later... Did it with his sister too, only to casually pass by her later again and them cleaning another as if it never happened? She usually simply ignored his bouts - kind of like a human would roll their eyes and go about their own busines until he calmed down again... With others (not me or his sister) he would "mark" someone for weeks or months even, still most often "forgetting" about it (and therefore confusing ppl) when he'd just act normal and cuddly with them during that time-span. I had several cats in my life, but he's the only one who keeps acting that way. Is it a "game" of sorts (that goes wrong with Bon who "plays it wrong" when he keeps following him around)?

Hard to tell...it could just be a basic turf war/dominance struggle. I don't feel like I have ever seen Guppy try a button. I would like to see Guppy get some separate buttons and get some training on them. Just like people, cats (or dogs) can be jealous of the attention others get...the reactions vary... It would be very interesting to see what would happen, the next time Billi visits, if they both had their own buttons. Would they just stay with their own buttons, or still try to claim the others? And yes, it would be interesting if they could get trained on the same button-words (not as easy as it sounds: you could easily wind up with one cat using Billi-speak, and the other using Guppy-speak!), and see what they might try to 'say' to each other. It could provide a lot of insight as to what Billi thinks her words mean...

Typical cousins- love to push each other's buttons!😂 I think the buttons have saved you from numerous cat fights. I think if Billi didn't have the buttons to address her dismay, she would choose violence....more often🥊😬😂

Wow, Billi clocked her one! lol The buttons seem to make this situation less stressful overall, though. Just the fact you can acknowledge and address exactly what is bothering her is amazing.

Oh that stare down Billi’s like child give me my space “there’s only room for one Queen and you are most definitely not it your spot is far far beneath mine” “Oh and did I mention that both my mother AND my buttons are off limits if u didn’t receive the memo it’s now officially been delivered.🔥🔥

Poor Guppy! She seems much younger! But I've noticed every time she stands by the buttons, she's not just staring off in space, she almost looks like she's amazed at the buttons & trying to almost read them!

😂 I have a cat like Guppy. He will sit and stare at my other ca, Leo, just to taunt him. He doesn’t touch him. He just follows him and stares. Leo will hiss and swat at him. I swear, he’s laughing. 😂

Billie is just the GOAT. My cat Greysea Bean is a big fan. As soon as she hears a button click, she spins to the tv and watches intently. Today was hilarious! Billie finally got fed up with verbal communication and took a whack at Guppy. 😂😂😂😂. I was thinking of getting this system for Greysea, but I’m sure she would just yell at me a lot. 😂😂

Once when I was with a friend of mine at their place, the neighbours had brought their toddler over to play with my friends' toddler. The neighbour's toddler then went over to the toy piano in the house, to which my friends' toddler had a conniption and chased the neighbours' toddler off. This scene reminded me of that.
