Amelia is really a mixed bag in my opinion. Sometimes she can out smart her chat and make big brain plays. Sometimes she can decide to take her rook out first thing and completely ignore development. Sometimes she can help others with her tech support, and sometimes she can call diorite Doritos. Ames definitely bottom, but the severity of bottom is also debatable as even some lewd jokes seem to fly over Ames head.

To be fair, being good at chess doesn't mean you're smart and vice versa. It's considered an intelligent game, but in actuality, it's more or less just a matter of practice and general understanding of your enemy. I've crushed people way smarter than me at chess and have been beaten by people who nearly flunked out of classes.

I really don’t think people get how hard some of this stuff is. Many of the clips of Ame or Gura or any of the others making mistakes are just mistakes, not them being stupid. They aren’t stupid. Most things are harder when you are in the middle of a stream and on the spot, like when they mess up the simple addition and stuff. And stuff like this, this is a first time for a lot of this so it only makes sense that they aren’t masters. Even in connect 4 and stuff, it’s way harder to see that stuff when you are playing it. Viewers have a unique view of everything from an outside perspective and they notice things much easier than the ones playing in the middle of a stream. I feel like a lot of people are being too hard on them for no good reason. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

It's considered a fun hobby since it's so easy to access, all you need is a board and pieces, and it can be played on basically any console or virtual device. It's a popular trope in many TV shows and Anime, so people pick it up, and it has this feeling of being smart and cool.
