Sounds of Chernobyl - Ukrainian project in which musicians write music using samples recorded in Chernobyl and welcome to visit the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone as the inspirational trip.
Icelandic artists GusGus and Bjarki released their Chernobyl-related songs this past October.
Bjarki even managed to visit Chernobyl, given the opportunity, despite the global COVID-19 pandemic.
His inspiration helped him create three tracks, one - together with GusGus.

Valeriy Korshunov, art curator of the project and producer of the album "Sounds of Chernobyl": "The music album Sounds of Chernobyl is a modern rethinking of the well-known Chernobyl disaster by musicians who told the stories of Chernobyl from different angles in each track. All the compositions of the album are united by the audio library "Sounds of Chernobyl" - a collection of sounds of the Exclusion Zone, which were recorded by me and the ARTEFACT project in 2018 and included: the crackle of the dosimeter, the Ferris wheel's squeak, the noise of the Red Forest, echoes, the sound of the running water, and technical sounds".

This year, the project was also supported by diverse Ukrainian artists Stasik, KAZKA, ATOMIC SIMAO, Vagonovozhatye, Serhiy Mikhalok (Lapis 98, Brutto), and Oleksandr Chemerov (The Gitas, Dymna Sumish).

The Chernobyl disaster affected millions of people around the world. This is a complicated story, which is still painful to talk about, but any injury must be treated. Music and songs have always helped to feel and rethink.
That is why the Ukrainian artist Valeriy Korshunov created the project "Sounds of Chernobyl" in 2018 as a part of an ARTEFACT art project with the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation's support.
Thanks to musicians' work, this project helps to look differently at the history that has intertwined the lives of so many people and will forever remain the biggest human-made disaster on the world map, located just 100 kilometers from Kyiv.

The Sounds of Chernobyl project has been bringing together artists for several years now; previously, these artists participated in the project: a beatboxer DUB FX (Benjamin Stanford) with the track Fake Paradise, the French band TELEPOPMUSIK with their clip Dreams made entirely from the chronicle of the once flourishing Soviet city's life.
The Sounds of Chernobyl project is implemented by Lavina Concert with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the National Museum of Chernobyl, INGO European Institute, NGO Center PRYPYAT.com and the ARTEFACT project.
