Manga reader here. The manga has currently enough chapters to make a Season 2 for this show. I just want to say that one of the things that I enjoyed the most while reading it is the great work at fleshing out the relationships among all the cast, both on the magical girls and the villains side (as well as between both sides). Something that the later chapters (Season 2 material) do is to emphasize Utena's role in helping these interpersonal relationships within the cast develop. So, the story is not only about how Utena's life is changed; it is also about how she impacted other people's lives. What's more, the story presents both the wholesome and the ugly side that friendship and romance can have, and I personally think that it does a very good job at making these character dynamics be extremely fun and entertaining to read while also having them feel real. I really hope we get a Season 2 announced some time.

instant like for mentioning yt's shadowbanning , it's gotta so bad recently everywhere i go i see comments disappearing and ppl complaining , sometimes i can't even get any comments to post on a given vid at all.... when i search for "gushing" though i do get lots of results very good overview of the show , particularly with one of the focus's of the themes being about how the girl's live's change from being granted the magical girl powers by the discount black/white kyubees and how it's also part parody that is self aware of all of it's elements and doesn't shy away from poking fun at itself for random gags , it usually has me laughing half of the entire duration of every episode i watched , the best one most likely being when it interrupted the first time ever of playing of it's own theme song for a pointless gag , had me rofling so hard XD and fuck censorship , embrace this peak culture!

i have described it this way since the beginning. Gushing picks up the line demarcating the border to "The H zone" and uses that line as rope for BDSM.

This show is more mature than one might assume from the first glance. Tres magia are basicly superstars and Utena is a toxic fan. Utena is a villain, because she has an idealized image of her beloved magical girls. But she doesn't see them as human beings. The show goes in great lenght to humanize the magical girls, how they struggle to be a magical girl. But do they deserve to be treated like this by utena? In a later chapter (spoiler) every character was thrown into game by neroalice. Utena was turned into the annoying fairy that annoyed the hero group. A fairy that has impossible standards for our heroes, like she has for magical girls.

The characters are really interesting. They really demonstrate that there is really no difference between the magical girls and the villains except what side they are on. The heroes are not perfect, and the villains are not "bad" guys. There are characters like Kiwi and Kaoruko who are on opposite sides but basically the same. To the point that the hate each other. Likewise Utena is indulging her fantasies and stirring up fights, but she's doing it to make the magical girls stronger. Sayo really exemplifies this, because she has a kink every bit as perverted as Utena's. But instead of giving in to it, she uses it to make herself a stronger magical girl. Which is what Utena wanted in the first place. As you said, they both embrace that dark part of themselves but it makes Sayo a better hero and Utena a better villain.

And you know what I find really interesting? Even though Utena and her group aren't the bad guys but are still the villains to the magical girls. They're also puppets of the puppet master Venalita who is THE bad guy and the pure evil one.

@@Animefan-uk8pw Never trust a Bunnycat. 🤣 I'm very interested in Venalita's motives. Kyubey from PMMM is pure evil. Even before we understand his motivations we can sense that something is wrong. Offering wishes in exchange for service, that sounds like a deal with the devil. Learning that he is doing this to delay the heat death of the universe doesn't make him less evil, it just explains why he is evil. Venalita, though, she seems to agree with Utena's methods. So either her goal is not the destruction of magical girls, or she believes they will be destroyed by corruption anyway. The corruption seems to be the goal, but what is Venalita trying to prove. That her way is better than Vatz's at building powerful magical girls? Or does she want to burn it all down? This conflict between Venalita and Vatz intrigues me because I don't know what is going on. There's so much still to learn.

@@richardryley3660 that's why I continue to follow this series I'm wanna know what his plan is. Especially with a certain event that happened in the manga and he says that things are going according to plan. I really want to know what he's up to. It's really intriguing stuff for a ecchi anime
