"Even those listeners who had studied the score for months were taken aback by the unexpected clamour of Mars. During Jupiter the charwomen working in the corridors put down their scrubbing-brushes and began to dance. In Saturn the isolated listeners in the dark, half-empty hall felt themselves growing older at every bar. But it was the end of Neptune that was unforgettable, with its hidden chorus of women's voices growing fainter and fainter in the distance, until the imagination knew no difference between sound and silence" Imogen Holst (the composers daughter) records her thoughts and observations of the 1918 premiere

This piece is what pushed me to stay a musician and I'm so glad I get to play this in marching band five years later. This song is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. I come back to this song a lot and listen to it. I played orchestra in high school & we played this song my sophomore year. I hated every single part of high school because I never fit in anywhere. But orchestra was my escape. Every time I hear this song I start crying because I’m reminded about how music like this can make you forget about the rest of the world for a moment and just enjoy the melody. Nothing can ever replicate that feeling.
