In the refinery business we've known for a long time that ethanol was more harmful than good. It drops fuel mileage because it produces less btu's than gasoline and the emissions suffer from ethanol not to mention the internal engine components damage. Obama had some buddies he wanted to hook up much like the DEF for diesels. That has also been found to have more toxins in it once it's catalyzed in the exhaust than just diesel exhaust on its own.

I have a flex-fuel vehicle. The one time I tried ethanol, I could almost watch the fuel level needle going south. This crap burns so much faster than regular, unadulterated gasoline. What a joke!

I have a friend with a Grand Caravan that is flex-fuel. I borrowed the van for a while, and filled her tank with E-85. The van wouldn't start, I had to have it towed home, and I had to drain the fuel tank (and thank god her van wasn't old and rusty).

I love you Gutfeld…. but this corn was never used to feed people (other than the corn which was used to make artificial sweeteners and corn syrup)… it was used to feed livestock. The variety used to make ethanol is called dent corn. After the distilleries are done making ethanol, the processed grain is called distillers grain and is used to feed cattle. It is high in protein and a better feed than the original corn.

Your post is supposed to be a joke, right? Energy is stored in batteries for nighttime use. And the plan would be to use a combination of wind, solar, tidal, hydro, thermal, and nuclear energy in a national grid. Excess energy created in one part of the country would be stored or simply transfered to the parts of the country that needs it..

I have heard that post ethanol processed corn mash is still used as animal feed. Since most corn produced is used as animal feed, it doesn’t affect food production. I’m not sure that is accurate and would love some info on that.

Ethanol has been a pie in the sky since they started subsidizing it in the 70s I believe. It isn't good for gasoline either. Gasohol tends to break down faster and cause issues in especially small engines. It also absorbs water more readily than straight gasoline.

I live in the city but have worked on a farm for many years and regardless of which corn is used, ethanol is worthless and it actually damages your engine long term. Diesel is the way minus DPF systems that don’t work and are a waste of metals to make them.

The fermentation of the corn into ethanol also releases massive amounts of co2. Not that it's a real problem co2 is food for plants. No co2 no food. But the hypocrisy is sweet isn't it.

@@lindamartinez6542 E-85 actually makes for decent race type fuel since it’s around 100 octane. I run it in one of my cars but I specifically set up the fuel system to make it properly compatible. It also doesn’t have anywhere near the shelf life of regular gasoline.

You forgot replacing all the fuel system parts on small engines, and vehicles that may have sat for any amount of time. Those parts manufacture make emissions also.

Also, Ethanol has less energy content (BTUs) than gasoline. So more of it is required to produce the same energy (less MPG). Even if it does burn "cleaner", is it enough to offset the increased amount that has to be burned vs gasoline.

John Deere and Cummins just put a chunk of money in a startup company named ClearFlame who converts diesel engines into burning ethanol. Since ethanol produces no particulates, there is no need for the expensive and very unreliable DEF and exhaust filters which have been a bane to diesel engine users. The Swiss Federal Laboratory found that even with just 10% ethanol the especially health devastating ultra-fine or nano particulate emissions were lowered by 97% compared with that of E0. Carbon monoxide emissions dropped by 81%. Emissions of aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were lowered by 67-96% with E10, and the genotoxic potentials dropped by 72%.

Corn in the form of HFCS in so much of our food is a main contributor to obesity and diabetes. If all those cornfields were converted back to their native grassland state and populated with Bison we could feed so many more people with healthy food. Natural grasslands do not require fertilizer, irrigation, or mechanized maintenance. In areas where cornfields have been converted back to grasslands nature returns: birds & other critters, fauna, and healthy land.

@@drkrypton4410 to be fair, we do have some lithium here in The United States, but I'm sure the environmentalists would resist the wholesale mining of it here, and encourage the Chinese to use the least environmentally friendly methods and slave labor to mine it there. Just like the tar sands oil that won't be coming to the USA via the Keystone XL pipeline, now it'll go to BC via trucks and rail (the most dangerous method of transport) to be loaded on tankers and sent to China to be processed in the least environmentally friendly way.

Back in the mid 90’s I was tasked with reading electric meters. On my route was the Berneville sewage treatment plant, it was just after July 4. The swirling tanks were loaded with corn, it was gross, yet I couldn’t help notice. It had to be 2 to 3 inches thick on top of the water and the aerator kept stirring it in, but the kernels wouldn’t sink.

My humble guess is that God doesn't like governments altogether. The heaven isn't about eliminating evil, but keeping evil at local levels only. An aristocrat or two may be corrupt, but the majority aren't, so the corrupt ones will soon get caught and evil doesn't spread. A spontaneous-order-based feudal system achieves exact that. Governments, however, tramps over local aristocrats and spontaneous order, allowing evil to travel up even to the highest level of a nation. This is the problem.

Well here's the thing anybody that knows engines or been around guys and those engines or has worked on engines knows that ethanol is an engine killer guys who race cars and race motorcycles go out of their way and pay more money for ethanol free gasoline the whole ethanol deal was a filler that the side effect was caused a lot of mechanical issues which of course the car industry profited from that mechanics profited from it plus it made their fuel supply stretch farther as you discuss but yeah this is a long time coming you know like duh but you city boys go ahead with your conversation LOL let's go Brandon

@@robholmes2129Also code for not as good as what we are trying to replace. Why electric vehicles are being subsidized. If they would just make them better and have better infrastructure to recharge, everybody would want one. I use battery powered tools 90% of the time because they are BETTER than corded. I have to use corded 10% because the battery option doesn't have enough power or doesn't last long enough. Cars are still in that 10% for most people.
