I think Saki was always fully aware of how she owned Reiko some closure after dying like that. And Saki didn’t just gave Reiko the closure that she definitely needed but also helped her to repair her relationship with her daughter in the process. Saki really is a good friend

How does Saki deal with the trauma she inflicted on her best friend? Make her live through it again just with a different ending.

She dealt w/ it bc she had to, in order to keep it from being worse.

If Saki hadn’t intervened, it would’ve been Reiko’s daughter and that other biker girl doing the chicken run which would’ve led to either one or both of them dying. Even if nobody got killed, Maria had already lost respect for her mom after watching her beg before the enemy gang. By taking Maria’s place in the race Saki made those girls see how close they came to death and scared from any future chicken runs. taking a punch from Reiko and letting her call out basically recertified Reiko as a badass in Maria’s eyes and helped Reiko regain her daughter’s respect plus helping her regain some closure from witnessing her death

I think even with Saki not understanding about what her old friend wanted then and now, she still helped out like she would when she was alive.

How to make peace in a long confrontation between two biker gangs, get a rebellious girl to have respect for her mother and make amends for past mistakes with who was her best friend and all that at the same time? It is possible with three simple steps: 1) Die in a motorcycle accident in 1997 2) Make that an eccentric manager [Preferably with a strange plan about saving economically and touristically a Japanese prefecture with a band of Idols] somehow proceeds to resuscitate the corpse. 3) Repeat the same accident at the same place in 2018.

I know Saki's a zombie, but shouldn't the bike exploding incinerate her, making her deader than dead?

1 An explosion of that magnitude wouldn't incinerate a human body, even if you let the flame burn till they went out, you'd still find charred remains rather than ashes. 2 it should have definitely damaged her makeup if she was in it. 3 seeing as her make up is fine and her clothes have dirt in it rather than burn marks, it's safe to assume that she jumped off before the bike actually exploded, relying on her zombie physic to survive the tumble on the ground.

If you notice a certain piece, yeah she did jump off the bike sooner, landing in the farther back grass rather than staying on the bike! It's a really cool detail they added ^~^

Reiko recognized Saki, but she also saw Saki die, saw the body and attended the funeral, so she knows Saki can't be alive.
