Ashley, throw down an old tarp where Doug is tossing his debris. You won't need to rake through the small stuff with your fingers to get it up off the ground. Important with lead paint flakes, nails and screws. Nice job guys.

This is my first time leaving a comment, but just wanted you and Ashley to know you have a lovely family and everyone of you work hard to make your home a happy one and one to be proud of of. Even Bell and Maverick pitch in and help. Not being nosy, but you may be able to apply for homestead exemption in the state of Florida, and you may get some tax breaks, I'm not certain but it's worth giving it a shot just want to give you a possible heads up every little bit helps. When I was a kid growing up in Florida I remember the “old timers” talking about “fat pine.” That was native, old growth pine that had been around since the Conquistadors. It was absolutely indestructible. Nothing could touch it: termites, mold, mildew, nothing could hurt it. In the ‘60’s and on if an sold building was being torn down and fat pine was in it, contractors would line up to bid on the salvaged pine. In a 1990’s college class I took, the professor said there was only one stand left, protected, on the north edge of the Everglades. I don’t know the age of your house but if that old growth pine was used to build it, it’s a gem and save that wood!
@richardjones52553 жыл бұрын
I have never seen old flooring come up as easily as that one did, you were lucky that time. You both worked really hard to get that work done, though I have to say team work like that wins every time. The wall repair patch method was a conversation piece to be sure, I hope it does not catch on any time soon! At least the old structure was not so bad, though the mismatched items had let the work down. This time you are not having to cut out rot and mould, which is a big plus. Waste and building work always appear to be close friends, but reusing the fully seasoned studs makes sense always round, fully seasoned, on site, good condition and already bought and paid for. I think there are some exciting times ahead, it is no wonder the children are excited.
@deborahpinkey12643 жыл бұрын
Remember the flooring in the kitchen in the Michigan house? Now THAT was some hard flooring to remove! I doubt if the diaper drywall patch will ever catch on! Ughhhhh! And this time, there wasn't mice and vermin feces falling from the ceiling!!!!! I was SO glad to see that the insolation was fairly clean! It is great that Doug knows how to remove the old studs and wood without destroying it. That will be a big savings, even if lumber prices weren't sky high right now. They ARE coming down, though.

When you start tearing your rooms to pieces it is really interesting to see what’s what , and to hear your explanations and plans for what’s coming next . I love the way you work . So many workers throw stuff about making a frightful mess , and deal with it at the end . A roofer did the house next to us and because they worked on the roof and didn’t need to clear debris on the ground , they left it on the ground squishing the garden and broadcasting black stuff and nails everywhere for quite a long time . Personally I can’t think straight with mess everywhere . Your orderly work procedures are a pleasure to watch .

Doug and Ashley you are working hard as you usually do. Just a small piece of advice, I know today young people think ceiling fans are ugly and they tend to take them out and get rid of them. If you can keep them and refurbish them or buy new ones, they are a necessity in the Southern states, for comfort and to be a wise stewart of your finances, it will keep your utility bill low. Funny thing about the diaper, they take years to biodegrade and work as a quick cheap fix to plug something.

Demolition Doug at it again! Glad you will be saving the wood from the living room walls. Ashley, for any more tear outs/demolition, put some tarps on the ground to catch all the small debris. You have the part of the job that is most hated - cleanup! Ughhh! Have y'all thought about buying a small shipping container and using it, temporarily, for storage? (When you're done, you can probably sell it back to the company you bought it from or sell it on eBay or Craigslist. Also, is there a Habitat ReStore or Goodwill anywhere nearby? They would have loved to have gotten that pedestal sink and maybe that shower unit if y'all are not keeping it. Good work today, you two - on the demo and the cleanup.
