Fantastic I was born in paan bazar in 1963 and when I was just 8 years my family moved to delhi and from that time till today I just remembered Kamakhya and Gandi Temple and France motor company which is located in dishpur .. Guwahati develop more in infrastructure, University, hospital and transportation but still fall to other develop cities in India but shillong is unique westernlike states bless with natural beauty clean air-water and the weather is awesome. I love Shillong but Shillong cannot be compared with Guwahati in any way . The main pblm with Shillong is the rush within a small area. But for tourism is great for other part in Meghalaya. But Shillong vs Guwahati, not a topic to compare ,both are best in there own situation.

Everyone knows that Shillong was modern from the British period whereas in Assam all Towns were conservative.. ofcourse after the arrival of smartphones scenario has changed and so in small towns also people are taking minis easily but still very conservative,still even in Guwahati if a woman wears pants or midi skirts too or wears an uncommon dress faces criticism..I am women so we hear all this remarks much "Sua sun tai skirt tu pindhi ahile..chunni nai salwar ejur pindhi ahibo lage,sua sun tai churidar pindhi ahile biya khon ole saree ba chador Mekhela pindhibo lage,eijonir baru pant pindhibole age ase ne? Gaor pora ahi jeans pindhise sua !" During 60/70 decade even Town girls in Assam after matric were afraid to wear churidar/ salwar except Assamese Muslims and pants / skirts also worn by police women or Nurses only after they passed matriculation and if someone wore western dresses in her college/ university days except home people will criticize " Dangkati bor Mem ulaise " ofcourse in tribal areas in Assam comparatively society was liberal,now a days as we are born in 80 decade we wear westerns but don't dare to wear in many conservative homes..but in Shillong mother has said that khasias wore western to traditional no body criticized,i myself has faced criticism in Assam after I came from Arunachal Pradesh..many had passed comments on me ..look she dresses so stylish she should go to films but truth was I never crossed limit in style and fashion.

I agree that Gauhati is the mother of shilong but afraid of staying even a single night because of hot climate and people also not simple like Shillong. Shillong is the best of all northeast states.

I've lived in Guwahati and visited Shillong. Both the cities are beautiful in their own ways. While Shillong is more clean and green, Guwahati is more developed commercially

Really you call guwahati looks like city of bangladesh... Then why people of meghalaya come and stay in Guwahati looking for jobs and working..do all those in your own state.. your meghalaya has nothing but only natural beauty...no development is there in meghalaya.. Guwahati is a big city, but it doesnt mean we are dirty...we have our own natural beauty coz of the mighty Brahmaputra river passing through the banks of Guwahati... Go observe that scenery
