Although there was a dictatorship during the 70's GT remained pretty clean.When the vendors were allowed to ply their trade everywhere and the minibus took over then everything went down. The economy went south , food shortages, the city stopped being properly maintained. By the 80's it was a struggle to survive .So everything gradually nose dived.

Burnham was good for Guyana protecting its resources from foreign pilfering unlike the current Government who are filling their pockets by taking kickbacks and giving the resources away. You people were the problem and that's why you were starving. If you had planted your foods, mind your poultry etc and get off your lazy a$$ ^# then you would not be complaining .

Facts before PPP turned Georgetown into the Garbage City.
@nafzak1005 ай бұрын
People have selective memories. Yes, the city was still fairly clean after independence in 1966, but gradually, it came under neglect and bad management under the PNC. By the end of the 70s vendors and garbage were taking over GT. Buildings were neglected because of the middle class migration. The train was scrapped as were the public busses. Incompetence ruled the day.
@user-hp9kn9uv1x7 ай бұрын
