I was about to send a question about this to our Microsoft Account Team... You've saved me time and effort... again! I'm convinced you guys are watching my laptop, so often I get to the point of "What do I need to do now..." or "Is that right?" and then within a day a video drops about just that. Keep up the great work, you're both much appreciated.

Great video that really clarified the "Build" permission... I kept thinking "BUILD" meant that a person could then "Change" the underlying Data Set. But that is not necessarily the case.. Also the ability for FREE users to be able to build their own reports is an eye opener. My company just recently went to a Premium Capacity and we are in the middle of reviewing the hundreds of Pro licenses that we have and cutting them back. Knowing that a Free user can still build their own reports give that we provide them "Build" access to our shared/core Data Sets is a great thing... again appreciate your clear and understandable videos..

Great detail. When I finished the video after a detailed notetaking process, I realized ta´hat the video is recorded 4 years ago. Your material is highly watched for the exam preparation, Could you consider if the content is changed. Thanks

Why not just add Power BI Data Catalog product to manage this? (Azure Data Catalog is too basic). I do not like the direction where this is going, many similar options in too many places. It is very difficult for us global admins with thousands of users and even more workspaces.

Hi Adam, I'd bei interested in a video about collaboration options across different organizations. Let's assume everyone in both organizations has a Pro license: Can I just add someone from a different organization to my workspace? Or is there more to consider? And what if my organization uses the Microsoft cloud and the other organization has an on premises installation of Power BI Report Server? Can they just pull in data from my organization from a dataset that is in the Microsoft cloud and shared with someone from the other organization and use the data in a report that is hosted on their on premises server? Please shed some light on this topic. Thanks a lot in advance!

Great video as always... quick question, if you have build I assume it's not edit on the dataset as long as you don't have member or contributor role on it's underlying workspaces, correct?

Perhaps an obvious question but does build permission respect RLS ?
@GuyInACube
@GuyInACube 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes. RLS is still respected. That is more aimed at consumers of the report though. not necessarily authoring.

Where can I look for some information about Big Data and Power BI? How does Power BI works with Big Data? I mean, with azure, you can connect to a cloud, but what is the capacity of Power BI to handdle that? Maybe I am doing wrong questions. By the way, nice videos, you guys are amazing.!

Is the Build Access required for End Users to Export Data (Table Records) because if we dont provide Build Permission they dont get the Option to Export the Filtered Records

I also noticed if user doesn’t have Build permission he cannot Export data from a visual. I hope there is a workaround for this, or if not, that Microsoft decouples it in the future. @Adam, any comment?

two questions. 1) does BI not allow the creation of new measures for people that have build access on the service? do reports not have build access ability? problem i am having those far is that i shared my datasets with cost analyts and i gave them build access and my understanding was that build access give them the ability to build new measures using the underlying data. is that not the case?

I know this video is quite old based on the speed at which MS are developing the PBI environment, but @3:20 can you tell me why users in my list do not have the option to remove access to dataset?

I have added two AD Groups to the app and shared the reports through the 'Direct Access' page the exact same way yet one of them has 'App (Build)' under permissions and the other has 'Read, Build' and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

If a user group has Read, Reshare and Build permission, can those users also grant Build permission to other users?

Hi, your videos are great, thanks! I've got a question, im struggling with some issue. I've got and excel with some tables which get refreshed every couple of hours.. is there any way to create a dashboard on PowerBI desktop getting data from this excel and keeping it updated without having to click on the refresh button? I hope I can get an answer from you! Best regards!
@GuyInACube
@GuyInACube 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no. Not from Power BI Desktop. There is no scripting capabilities to trigger the refresh outside of hitting the refresh button.

Hello Adam I saw your video about "Build permissions". Thank you I have following issue : 1. I want users to be able to export from a visual ( eg a table ) 2. I DO NOT want them to be able to export or download the PBIX file 3. I DO NOT want them to be able to “analyze in Excel”. all users have PRO licence. Can this be achieved ? Please point me in the right direction. Thank you

@GuyInACube 5 жыл бұрын
The export control is really an all or nothing item. It doesn't have granular control like that. You can do that either at a tenant level, or within the Power BI Desktop file options itself.

@@GuyInACube Thanks … what do I change in Tenant area ?
@GuyInACube
@GuyInACube 5 жыл бұрын
@@sunilshah5255 There is a section, under Admin Portal > Tenant settings, called Export and sharing settings. There are several options there. One you can disable is called "Export data". Description: "Users in the organization can export data from a tile or visualization. This also controls the Analyze in Excel and Power BI Service Live Connect features."

Hi i want to know what is difference between 70-778 certification vs edx powerbi certification both are same? #edx #powerbi
@GuyInACube
@GuyInACube 5 жыл бұрын
the 70-778 is the official Microsoft Certification. edX certifies that you've taken the edX course. If you were to pick one, I'd personally go with the Microsoft Certification. My impression is that is weighted higher than the edX course. Also, the edX course/certification was available before the 70-778 was made available.

@@vivektommy Definitely have a look at the Power BI Guided Learning. We also have a playlist that covers some content relevant to the 70-778. I believe there are some books/study guides out there as well.
