I actually literally ran a town once. Mind you, there was no mayor or law in the area. It was an old coal mining camp that became a small community. I moved in as a kid and eventually I earned the whole town's respect and they wanted a leader. They chose me. Nowadays it's run by the actual law but back then I was the unofficial mayor. I was also a teenager though so I wasn't a good leader. I don't know why they wanted me to do it but I did it because it wasn't boring.
