In 1993 The Gaither Vocal Band (Bill Gaither, Mark Lowry, Michael English and Terry Franklin) were recording their classic CD, "Southern Classics." They were invited to do a 'rehearsal' concert for Ben Speer's Stamps Baxter School of Music. This is from that night.

Doesn't matter how many times or versions I see of this song, it is still funny. My favorite still has to be when you put your shoes up to Bill's face (I thought David was going to fall over laughing), and then at the end when Bill ask you how stupid you could be, you said "You ain't seen nothing yet". Hilarious! Thanks Mark

Too funny! I can’t believe they have tied the same jokes to the same songs for this long! I found them often helpful with my gospel music students, despite the silliness they could really perform. They are pretty much wrong about the origin, it pretty much came out of the Appalachian revivals down through the African American Independent Baptist movement and then most likely one of those churches solidified the song in its current form and then was recorded in the forties.

Mark is the first time yall ever did this bit onstage on here somewheres? Am I watchin it right now🤩😄🤓?! First time I saw it, it was with “the new Guy”, & I liketa’ died I done laughed so hard… would just love to see the first time, if this ain’t it🙏🥲
