Cross Bones Productions I’d have to loved to get in drum line sooner, had I known drums were my passion now I would’ve absolutely jumped on board in middle school. I just quit after we had to learn xylophone and glockenspiel, all the octaves confused the crap out of me. Same with piano when I was about 5. I just love the idea of rudiments and a multitude of ways to play on a small amount of drums. Anywho, it’s never too late to get into music!

Being stuck on traditional grip is like believing the world is flat. Its old school thinking while denying science, truth, and logic based on hard evidence and fact. Match grip is superior in every way. The ONLY logical reason for traditional grip to even exist is the shoulder sling snare harness which went out of style in like the 1970s due the superior double shoulder hard harnesses being invented that hold a drum firmly and level due to the need for good sense and improved functionality and also symmetry in human motion. Its natural even. Any argument that can be made against that has nothing to do w drumming and everything to do w stylistic flare points for judges in field show which is the dumbest part of marching and drumming. Even though i consider buddy rich one of the top drummers of all time and crucial to my development as a drummer, same goes with playing set. Traditional grip holds no functional value what so ever.

Can we all just talk about those bass runs holy crap that was good, even tho I was a little disappointed that the snares are using match grip, they still are very clean and everyone is together, but fr those basses are amazing
@johncoyle85513 жыл бұрын
Not enough attention is ever given to the basses, like those runs weren't crazy by any means but they were clean and that's what matters. Too often basses are ignored from an instructional perspective in high schools so they can barely do 3s like that, and then when they're not ignored and are playing well, then they are ignored by the audience and not given credit. You need a certain mindset to play bass well and it's always good to hear a high school line that has basses with that right mindset. Match grip is fine though since they were clean and that's usually the reason high schools opt for match grip.
@liamfr79183 жыл бұрын
@@johncoyle8551 yeah the while point of me saying all that was to give the basses more credit qnd yeah they were clean, its just that when I was in band every comp I went to the basses were absolutely garbage so to see basses in sync and together was cool

Honestly traditional grip isn’t that important, yes it is true most high skill lines use it but they only use it because of tradition. Look up pretty much any wgi high school Drumline and they are BY FAR cleaner than this school. Plus their using match grip, which is IMO kinda strange
@firkinja2 жыл бұрын
@@flu8781 Matched grip is better because you have a lot better of a chance to get the same sound out of each stick, and it’s applicable to tons and tons of other percussion instruments. My university’s snare line plays traditional grip, and after I’ve gone through a whole marching season, my chops on literally all other percussion instruments have suddenly gotten a bit worse. Also, most lines play flat drums, which makes traditional grip make almost no sense physically, since it was invented during a time which drums that were worn at a dramatic angle on the side of the body. Traditional grip does look a lot cooler and it has a lot of potential for cool stick tricks, and it’s extremely flashy and impressive, not to mention (obv) the amount of tradition behind the technique and the history of marching snare drum as a whole; however, given the modern marching snare climate and the change to flat drums, it physically and musically makes no sense. Anyone can get good at it and it’ll sound amazing if it’s clean, but there’s no possible way to make both hands sound completely even. This appeals to drum set players because a lot of times you don’t want your hands to sound even, but in marching, I truly believe it makes no sense to use traditional these days unless you’re playing a drum on a sling 🤷🏻♂️

Damn, I forgot there are actual schools all indoors. I'm from southern California and we've got practically only outdoor schools. You know as cool as marching band is I gotta say drum line takes the cake for the most hype. Let's be honest though us marching band nerds got the coolest costumes.

This is hella better than our drum line. Wow. Like a lot better. Our winds are actually really good but our percussion barely knows when to stop cadencing lol. I should go and show this to them and see if they can get their act together because this is _clean_
@claireeee8503 жыл бұрын
i expected to see talk about the drum playing, instead everyone is talking about how you’re using matching grip and not traditional 🤑

I’ve never seen people thinking band was actually cool! I love band I wish other people see band the same way as I do but we do have our own opinions. P. S. I’ve never seen band music from a snare’s perspective! Awesome playing!

I miss my high school drumline I loved playing the snare. Our drumline was as big a deal for the town as our football team was if that tells you anything.
