Dave was getting ready to 'retire' in 2015 apparently. Of course he'd still be making weird shit and show up every once in a while and generally just be awesome, but Blothar aka Mike Bishop was in talks to be the new singer before Dave passed, seeing as how he was the original beefcake the mighty

I don't agree. This guy is a fine vocalist if it were a GWAR cover band. But given Oderous essentially was the entire band I don't think it's the same at all. I wanted so badly to enjoy them without him in it because I feel like he would have wanted GWAR to continue. But when the guy doesn't sound even close to him, has less than a third of the intensity, and in the sense of lore a sloppy thrown together back story, it's not even close to the same. It's way better than when they tried out that chick singer immediately after he died, but it's not GWAR anymore. Its just a money grab at this point with the GWAR namesake.

Blothar is the original Beefcake the Mighty. He was the vocals on the original recording of "Cool Place To Park". They brought him in, because they thought only a founding member of the band could fill the role left by Brockie and do justice to the fanbase.

As a singer Bishop is more technically talented than Dave. Dave had more energy and presence though.

Im glad to see Gwar on Adult Swim. An independent, art-centric band, on network that has the same foundation. But these guys made real contribution's to the abrasive and absurd style that Adult Swim was built on. And I know that I'm sounding like a real heavy metal gatekeeper right now. But I'd like to see Gwar go out, having a special on their regular broadcast. Super stoked that these two behemoths have paired up. I just hope that Adult Swim rolls the dice on these legends and sends them off proper. Staying tuned.
