I agree. My ex Gf and I liked this song when it came out and then when we got into that part near the end with the "on again, off again" phase we would listen to it and it became even more powerful. That time without talking then the late night, 4 in the morning phone call with "I love you so much.../I miss you....". I feel like a lot of us have been there.

This song is so telling. She wanted so much to be loved completely by Gavin and he wasn’t capable. She wanted her marriage to work and he just couldn’t give back, plus he couldn’t be faithful. I have been there before. She is pleading to him in this song. I have heard this angst and hurt in other songs about him. He is a tool. So glad she has Blake. She got her love story and she so deserves it.

One of the best NEW WAVE / POP songs in music history. Gwen Stefani was the first in 2002 to mix those genres. This is so much better than "Cool" hands down. Now this style is evreywhere bc every artist post Gwen followed/copied her style. But no one makes music like her, her creativity is unmatched. HER BEST SONG.

Everything about this song is magical. This is just one of the many millions of examples of how much feeling, emotion, yearning, pain, and yes even trust, a song like this one can conjure up. This to me is true art. Even if you can't relate to the lyrics, you still feel her raw feelings come through the vocals and the background vocals add a somewhat haunting but somberly beautiful melody to accompany the overall tone of the song. Beautiful

@Rubysparkle Rodriguez, I spent 4,5 years in a relationship that was like that. He just wouldn't open up, wouldn't let us truly be close. He couldn't in a way. It was really painful and I knew it wasn't going to work but it took me a very long time to leave because I couldn't stand the thought of hurting him. I don't know if you're in a similar situation, but at some point you need to let go if you are truly unhappy. Some people do know how and want to work on themselves, unpack the baggage of their past and cherish the love they have now, but some people just don't know how to achieve that. People don't know what they don't know. I wish you all the best. 🌺💖

Love this song and the upbeat frantic pace of the chorus. It’s catchy and also captures the desperation and back and forth of a fight. I think with hindsight this may have been what she often felt in her first marriage. I’m glad she seems happy now. Although it’s sad this version of Gwen is now in the past - the style, the music - it was all informed by a darker place. She gets to live and embody true happiness now
