GWO wind turbine training for working both offshore and onshore, as a variety of wind turbine technician / service roles - 4/5 DAYS.
We did (and filmed) the GWO Basic safety training course (BST), so you can see what it looks like.
About the GWO BST course - This is the course needed for working on wind turbines either as a technician or in many cases needed for the construction projects. The GWO BST training is in 4 parts:
Working at height (+ manual handling)
- First aid
- Fire awareness
- Sea survival
Discounts
We did the course at AIS Survivex in Aberdeen, Scotland. If you are looking to do the course, you can check out this link for available discounts.

We are currently applying for funding to make videos about the jobs and services in the energy industry. So that we can get the talent we need to create the renewable energy infrastructure for reaching NET-ZERO.

So I was looking local for turbine techs. My background was 5"54 cal gun mount captain aboard a destroyer which had many of the same general systems that turbines may or may not use. Ladder logic, hydraulic, servo electronics etc. Then years later did generator tech after doing heavy equipment repair. Being completely responsible for the mounts operation troubleshooting repair and preventative maintenance was my game in the nav. Now here's what tripped me out. Turbine techs are freaking awesome! Like a mix of smart and crazy. I'm sure most would fail the climb. If they survived the climb would freak at the top. So you are all a rare breed. Being 59 years old now I know I could do the climb. Sheer will boys and girls. But what flipped me out was 20 to 23 an hour. I'm making 23 an hour now and all I have to do is lift about 10,000 lbs 4 days a week and drive 400 miles per day. So that's 40,000 lbs total with a 1600 mile drive. I think that the techs that work on these systems should be in the 30 to 40 range given the ass busting work that they do. You can call me wrong on this one if you want to but that's just my opinion. Props to all those out there who grind it out every week and keep those props turning!

I'm not sure on the salary aspect you are mentioning, possibly that is onshore wind for specific companies. We are preparing to produce a large amount on content on the services and jobs in offshore wind, which is huge area especially in the UK that needs a lot of workers over the coming years, manufacturing, installation then maintenance. We'll start posting about that soon. Thanks for your comment

Well done video, The GWO is vastly different from the US version currently , as we can't seem to get our off shore going. but our program requires "manual handling" and the 5th part which is off shore isn't required. But thankfully more companies are at least requiring GWO, having been through 3 different course they are not equal. but its a start.

Thanks for the message. I think everyone is wanting BOSIET and GWO to combine to become and ‘all energy’ offshore course. In the UK OPITO are working on something called a skills passport, so that people don’t need to do duplicate training. it will save workers money. Fingers crossed for that.

Just found your channel... Watched all your videos at once. Amazing job! Can you possibly do a video talking about career prospects and opportunities in the renewable energy industry? I am a renewable energy master's student, who is still wondering which of the many paths to take :)

Hi Pavel, thanks for the positive feedback. Yes is the answer we will definitely be making content on that. We just finished working on the Hywind Tampen, the worlds largest offshore wind turbines, located offshore Norway 🇳🇴. We will have videos on that coming up. We are also mapping out a course/ video series for graduates such as yourself to show you these work opportunities in renewable energy, starting with offshore wind. Keep an eye out on the channel and LinkedIn page for updates: www.linkedin.com/company/energy-insider/

I'm confused if i complete the GWO courses can I then apply to work for companies. I have no experience How do I train for the actual job. What other requirements are there
@EnergyInsider
@EnergyInsider Жыл бұрын
@@oumuamua1963 I understand your difficulty there are not a lot of information on the jobs. if you have no experience, you need to find work with a company to teach you how to perform a specific service. Best thing to do is apply for a job first, look for companies in ‘supply chain clusters’ or ‘offshore wind clusters’ based in a location suitable for you. The GWO BST course allows you to actually work on them, or on part of the construction project, it’s not the training for a specific service type. I hope that helps

Welcome. I just came across your video. great thing. I am interested in wind turbines. I COME FROM EUROPE FROM POLAND. I WOULD LIKE TO TRAIN MYSELF AND FIND MY FIRST JOB. DOES THIS TRAINING GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO FIND A BETTER JOB WITHOUT EXPERIENCE BUT WITH THE CERTIFICATE OF THIS COURSE. WHAT DO YOU THINK.
@EnergyInsider
@EnergyInsider Жыл бұрын
This is the required certificate for you to be able to work on the turbines. You will still need to find the job. Fortunately the industry is growing and there are lots more jobs, check construction and installation jobs not just maintenance, as there is a lot of construction happening.

I am from India and currently working as wind tech...but i want to work outside of India??? What I do??
@EnergyInsider
@EnergyInsider Жыл бұрын
Hi Prem, I’m not sure what advice to give here, you can either work for an Indian company that supplies services overseas, or apply to companies based outside India (they would need to sponsor a visa) or work for a multinational company that operates in India, that will allow you to work and move between their regions. It’s general advice, but that would be the strategies, also look for other groups that might give info to your countrymen, Scottish people have ‘global scot’ for example.

Most likely not. He only did the 'Safety' portion of the training here. He would also need to do the 'Technical' portion (Mechanical, Electrical, and Hydraulics) to do the actual work.

hi ,might be a silly question but do you need rope access to work on wind turbines .are there any jobs that don't require you to be working off a rope ???
@EnergyInsider
@EnergyInsider 11 ай бұрын
No you don’t need rope access courses. If you are working on any equipment on the turbine that is accessible from a standing position then you are all good. If you need to hang then you will
