Hey guys - Welcome back to the channel! I'm Al Lunacy and this is Al Lunacy Q'ing. Today we are doing a product comparison of two cooking woods - GWP, also known as Gourmet Wood Products and B&B charcoal. Now those familiar with the videos and the
channel know that I've been cooking with B&B post oak cooking wood for quite some
time now but I'll be totally honest with you i have never used GWP before. Now before we take a closer look at these products, I'm going to give you a brief background on both these companies.

Awesome video! I usually buy B&B but lately at Academy they don't have it in post oak so I've had to buy GWP. I like the sizes and ease of splitting the GWP sticks. The B&B sometimes comes with small dense limbs that I end up not using because they don't burn well. But I think overall my experience over the years, the B&B burns better, more even, more predictable. Some of the GWP is so dry that it will take off in an inferno and burn down to coals quite fast. I own a moisture meter and I measured several sticks from a box of GWP I bought a few days ago, and they were measuring between 6.5% and 6.8%. By contrast, I measured a few spare sticks of oak B&B that I've had for over a year, and they are still around 11%. I'd bet those will burn slower and more evenly than the GWP. Just my opinion. Thanks for your video.

Thanks for chiming in! Great info. GWP is expanding their product line into wood chunks so when they release those I will do a comparison to the B&B wood chunks. To this day I still use B&B wood chunks & wood chips but use GWP wood splits for my offset and my Santa Maria. I will have a moisture meter for the next one for sure! Thanks again for sharing the info!

I bought 2 boxes of GWP I hot 42 pieces , out of 42 , 12 of them had rotten decomposed wood on half the splits, some was completely rotten ,, ill try them again , because post oak is excellent smoking wood

I've noticed Academy stopped carrying most B&B products and mostly has GWP products now.

My Academy has both but there is more of a different wood selection w the GWP.

I use both but the gwp is more convenient the b&b wood I have to split to smaller size

The last few bags of B&B were trash wood that I had to break down myself. GWP is at least consistent in size and quality. If only it wasn't so hard to find an honest wood guy

Ya- that extra work you have to put in with the B&B turns me off. I have the same problem with the wood guys here in STX. Thanks for stopping by bud!

@AlLunacyQing I have a face cord of "seasoned" wood that MIGHT be ready next year. I won't be calling that guy back.
