Locos : Gooty [GY] WDG4 Twins #12680 & #12237 (Airavat)
Train : Loaded BCNA
Place : Makalidurga [MKL]
Date : November 2015
The actual video starts @ 1:19 , Didn't feel like editing the idling sounds of the Beasts. Enjoy the beautiful sounds made by Twin v16 engines
Typically a single loco can haul the entire load but due to the terrain twin locos need to fire up all their horses just to keep the load moving.
Makalidurga Station lies on steep incline which continues for another 5 km. Before the departure, all the locos (trains) that are stopped here are fully powered to notch 5-6 before their brakes are released so that they wont roll back on the down gradient.
Waiting to see how the electrics would perform with the same load.

EMD 710 diesel engine, same as our SD70ACe's here in the states. Good engines and will last almost forever if you maintain them properly.

Great video and believe me, WDG's and WDP's have great lift off. And those heavy humming and constantly increasing sound resonates a supersonic fighter jet launching full afterburner before take-off. A single engine has the power of 4500hp. But the main and the most powerful thing about these locomotives are the sudden burst of power it possess while lift-off and acceleration which ultimately helps it in better pulling. A single engine is capable enough to rake-up 40 wagons behind. But though it is a hilly area so two engines are needed for better grip and lift-off while pulling.

Exactly. A WDG4D is enough to pull not only 40 but 90 fully loaded wagons and that too alone with good speed and very high tractive effort.

Known as the GT46MAC in other parts of the world. Twin 16-710G3B engines with EFI. AC-AC traction with Siemens inverter drive. 9000 traction horsepower.

Sure was a gradient to sort.8800 hp in two locomotives is a huge power . One of this locos may pull perfectly 40 wagons. the worst train enemy:the gradients.

Those criticising the focus for a few seconds on the signal waiting for it to change to green are not true railfans but watching for the heck of it....with no real interest. Hats off to you by focussing on the red signal and being patient enough to wait till it becomes green. This is a vital part of train operations and only shallow minded persons with no real interest will criticise your video. You have done a superb job keep it up we are waiting for more

As a kid I watched the signal change its color with intent and eager anticipation of the train honking thereafter and slowly pulling out of the station. Though train travel has become a rarity for me now, trains anywhere , their associated equipment, signalling system, signage etc will always hold a fascination for me.

They remove buffers MU locos for better coupling and its not possible to move the train back and forward again, The gradient is steep! Thanks for watching :)
