GYMNASTICS FOR HORSES // Young Horse Vs Experienced

›› Today was gymnastics day for the horses! I set up a simpler grid for my 4 year old and a more technical one for my more experienced horse. We also had some fun jumping a bigger single fence! I do grids with my horse all the time because he has a tendency to rush at fences and grids have really helped him

Dali and Khal look amazing! Dali seems to be eager to learn and catches on quickly. Khal reminds me a lot of Fiona how he locks right on to the jumps. 💕

Loved this! The grid you did with Khal I did with both mine the last time I jumped but had an oxer instead of an upright in the middle but I found it so useful too! Dali is improving with every video 🙌🏼

Love this! You can see that Dali was really thinking throughout this activity and you were very honest in explaining when you felt that you;d given too much leg or not enough. Thank you for sharing these moments as it's very insightful and useful to people like me who aren't the most experienced of jumpers and are still learning!

Omg at my barn we do so many gymnastics/grids at my barn and I know this sounds crazy but my horse jumps grids so much better when the fences are bigger

Dali looks super!! Definitely took him a second to realise what the exercise was, but he was getting better every time. Super happy it worked for you! And I can't say enough about how good Khal is looking!

Could you do a video on teaching lead changes I’ve never had a problem teaching one until recently!! I’ve had a lot of orbs and mostly all have been able to understand changes quite easily but of course the one I decided not to sell has one of the worst changes going right to left and I can’t seem to help him start to understand the change!

I've always wondered.. How do u get one or 2 horses out your paddock? I can't manage to get one out my paddock when there's 4 other horses in the same paddock 😂

What’s the difference between a bounce and a gymnastic? I’ve always just used the words interchangeably.

Virginia M A bounce is where the horse has to land after the jump and immediately take off again. It is often used in a gymnastic/grid which is like a type line of a various number of jumps that generally includes bounces and one strides. All different types of gymnastic exercises can teach horses all different kinds of things at any height-though I generally see the height ascending or low to high to low, like for Dali.

Start with just poles first and when you put them up to small fences, try trotting into them instead of cantering :)

Holly Lenahan omg that’s really cool! I always thought about naming a future horse Kaleesi haha. I find the names from Game Of Thrones to be really cool :)
