Gypsies Next Door S01E01
New series. Documentary following travellers' constant struggle to co-exist with settled communities. Carol and her family cannot understand why her community is so hated and vilified, while local man Arthur is on a mission to understand what brings the travellers into parks and public areas - and Carol's caravan is his first stop. Johnny and his family live in a chalet in Essex but his non-traveller wife Andrea has had enough of feeling ostracised and wants to move back into a normal house

Thank you so much for uploading these! I'm only part Romani, I'm also Tahitian and Japanese, but I don't have a TV so I can only watch shows on my phone on KZfaq. It's interesting how in the UK they spell non-gypsies "gorger", here we spell it "gorgia". Maybe regional thing, like "colour" or "color"? I really wish all our neighbors had horses instead of cars! Horses are better for the environment and they don't use any gas. I'd love to see more horses, as long as they're well loved and well cared for, and they obviously love their horse Mary.

I'm an American that visited the UK last year. Long story short..forgot I left my wallet, ID's , passport, everything in my Mom's bag and her and my Dad flew out a day earlier. I was stuck with my phone and the equivalent of $25 dollars in my pocket. Asked a guy if I could bum a smoke since I was stressed and got to talking. Turned out that he was a traveler and by the time I finished the cigarette, he had offered me a home cooked meal and a place to sleep if I needed. Didn't ask for anything in return and didn't try to swindle me or anything. Took him up on the offer and it was the best choice I made the whole trip. Was able to share a great meal and be a part of their family for a night. They were some of the nicest, warmest people that I've met in my travels, so it blows my mind to see them being viewed in such a bad fashion. There's exceptions, but isn't there with all people?

I do have a funny story. About 30 years ago I had just began my career as a dental assistant. In the area I was working we has Gypsies come to town every year. My mom used to always say if I was not good she would sell me to the gypsies. Lol. I thought she was joking. I had no idea that gypsies actually come to town. And that year working in the dental office I was made a believer. Several Gypsies came in to the dental office and several had teeth pulled. And they negotiated the price. They got a deal too. After they left one lady said we got off good this year they didn’t take anything. That’s when a few of us noticed a big vase. Really it was huge. Would take two men to carry it out. But some how they managed to take that huge vase right in front of everybody and no one saw a thing. Lol. The dentist said heck if they could take it right under our noses they deserved it. We all had a good laugh. True story. Leslye

@x y That's exactly where you're wrong. We don't have Gypsies in the US and I had no preconceived notions going into this. My opinions are based on this video. And you're ignoring the fact that these people (maybe you too) are taking over public land that the people who pay taxes to live there pay to have landscaped, maintained, and to be allowed to use. You have no right to it, especially if you're shitting in the fields. It is never acceptable to bury your shit within view of someone's house. A child could be playing in that field a week after you leave and they'll be running around in your crap. It's disgusting and I'm glad doing that is illegal here. You are an animal if you shit in a field. That's literally what animals do. I'm not a nazi. Far from it. But your argument is disgusting and shows I'm right,

The problem that no one ever highlights is that by living on other people's land, or public spaces, is that they are not paying the taxes that every other resident is forced to pay by councils and government. The tax we all pay is for trash collection, postal service and emergency services, no wonder they will not deliver the lady's mail. I understand they want to live free and have a lot of land, but living for free on other people's land, while everyone else has to pay for the privilege is why people get annoyed i suppose.

I agree. But at the beginning of this show ....where Johnny and Andrea lived in their caravan someone did just that. They bought land and then built their caravan village which the council bulldozed down because of people complaining over zoning issues. It’s like they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t ! I do feel for them. But at the end where Carol said she was going to have to start breaking into/onto properties because there was nothing else they could do??? No! That’s not right either. Rent a space in a caravan park. Don’t just squat on people’s properties You wouldn’t like it if someone walked into your caravan and just started sleeping in your bed or borrowing your vehicle without your permission but it’s ok if you do it ???

x y Everyone has to pay their way in life. I support myself and my kids. I don’t have the money to support people who want to trash “common” land that’s as you say owned by no one. It’s owned by the city /council/ state/ parish/ country. There is no longer any land that’s up for grabs !!! If the travellers were like Carol and her family then I wouldn’t mind them camping on my land or “common” land around me as long as they paid for their own electricity/gas/water. I pay mine ...you pay yours. What’s not fair about my response ? Would you like to support another family? Do you want to have human feces on your garden? Pay for what you use

They eat in their bathrooms? Don't their caravans have like a kitchen/dining area and a separate enclosed bathroom? Or are they built different over in the UK? I would think it's more because if they use the toilet in the caravan then the black water tank gets full and they have nowhere to empty it or it costs too much.

I live in Australia and my husband and I have a caravan and enjoy travelling in it , and we often stay in free camps, NEVER once have we seen human waste and or rubbish. Our van has its own bathroom and to say they think it’s unclean to use the toilet is an insult and stupid. The waste is completely contained and we empty the waste every day into appropriate iether public toilets or dump points. There are authorised free camps often close to towns that we support by buying our groceries ect. Many of us are keen to keep these camps and see it as a privilege to see our beautiful country without spreading rubbish and disease, because that’s exactly what human waste and rubbish spreads! To say it’s culture to be a traveler is nonsense......... if they really wanted to live that way show some human dignity and respect for yourselves and the community by leaving a clean and tidy space. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to denigrate and rubbish land that doesn’t belong to them. For goodness sake take your own waste with you find the appropriate disposal point , and do it that way. They can change their negative perception by showing they have proper standards.

Although he's never admitted to it, I think Karl's family was Gypsy.

My opinion for what it's worth is it seems both sides are at fault here. You have non-traveler's that are lumping all travelers into a category as being bad people, when that isn't the case and on the other hand you have travelers that assume all non travelers don't like them and that isn't true either. This is a sad situation and I hope that one day they can all learn to treat each other with respect and human dignity.

Poor "food" animals who get taken away from their mothers, enslaved, put in tiny stalls or in crowded sheds unable to move around properly, fed an unnatural diet until they are fat enough and profitable enough to be slaughtered and bled out and cut up and put on human beings plates :'( That horse is doing alright compared to billions of other sentient beings we use and abuse in the name of food!

In Australia we have so many places we can stay for free in a caravan, also lots of places to dump our human waste a long the highways so we dont have these problems. Sad that other countrues arent the same.

There's many places to stay for free sure but not for a group of say 15 caravans.

The UK is so small geographically with limited free space. It’s not ok to defecate in a hedge near to other humans
