It is a gypsy Rumba, and it is in the correct key (Dm) for gypsy guitarists. This play along is dead on, ABSOLUTELY correct, not every style plays every song the same way. This is a gypsy jazz play along from one of the top players in the genre.

It's very a very latin feeling rhythm that subtlely uses a clave kinda thingy. B section is pure unadulterated swing mind-you.

This rythm is called Rumba. You can learn it in Hono Winterstein´s instructional dvd from DC Music School... or you can just relax your wrist, play al the 16th notes and make the correct accent... it´s theoreticaly really easy, jaja.

I liked that these backing tracks have so many viewers, but I wonder now if I am responsible now for at least 10000 of the views of this one video..

Interesting how the recorded background alternates from A7 to B-flat7, which is not on the given chart. I feel this alteration is good for the improvisatory sections, but doesn't fit well with the head which holds a long A at the beginning. Nice sound.

I'm Alex's brother. This backing track is played right but written wrong... the A7 to Bb7 is standard for this tune. Check out all the videos of famous players performing it. The Bb is there dude. Yes by the way, as you pointed out, the improv works really well using A7 with flat 9 etc. Perfect chance to play altered dominant. Although I always forget where I am if I don't reference the HEAD MELODY during improv. Its not as simple as the likes of Minor Swing, All of Me etc.

This is the best playalong on youtube, but in the wrong key...
@erichnussbaum4 жыл бұрын
I've played it for years in g minor. But Gypsy-Guitarists usualy play it in d minor. Thanks to the lockdown, I've had time to learn it. Also, if you play with singers, you often have to change the key ... If you listen to Django, they modulate during the song. It seems like Django did not care about the key. He played every song in every key and he had great ideas for the modulations.

Audio is correct. Chart is NOT correct. This chart contains 2 false extra Dminors in the A sections and is missing all of the Bflats from the A sections. B section is fine. BUT I LIKE PLAYING ALONG IN THIS KEY - its my key. Luke Day (Alex Day's brother).

Out of curiosity, do the two adjacent % signs mean that you continue playing Dm for 8 bars? In other words, are there 56 bars total in this song, or only 48? Thanks!
@adrienmoritz10367 жыл бұрын
I can only count 38
@carrotcarrot48647 жыл бұрын
The two extra "%" must be a mistake. Am is played 6 bars, Dm only 2 bars.

Any song can be played in any key. Guitar versions are very often transposed to a different one.
@phatthand5 жыл бұрын
I believe it was written and commonly played in Fm, banjo players like it in Cm. This version in Dm.
@Hucho11 жыл бұрын
this rhythm is called rumba but its not a correct name. A better name is Balkan rhythm or something like that. Because a spanish rumba has a different flow. If you listnen to Serbian Trumpet bands. They use exactly this rhythm as played above
@Hucho11 жыл бұрын
It's REALLY not Latin this rhythm. Listnen to this balkan band and you hear that it is the same rhythm: Iag Bari (The Big Longing) - Fanfare Ciocarlia So this rhythm should be called Balkan
@MisterRokil11 жыл бұрын
Too bad it's in A, everybody play it in C?
@carrotcarrot48647 жыл бұрын
I think that A works better for guitar arrangments.
@80sMeavyHetal5 жыл бұрын
It starts with A but is in Dm, the other one is in Fm ;)
