Aw, that's lovely! SO pleased you admired her dress! Wedding dresses are always interesting to look at, as most of us only ever wear one for a single day in our lives, though some do manage a 2nd or even a 3rd day in our lifetimes!

Good question! Yes, traveller girls always dress up beautifully and spend hours having their hair and makeup done, but in general, the men seem to place less value on their appearances. They are much more comfortable in a pair of jeans, really, and I don't blame them.

Yes, that's true, but it's not that young that she doesn't know what she's doing. Marrying young gives more time to successfully have a family. Too many wonem wait so long to establish their careers and to get on the housing ladder, then once they've finally settled on the man they want to marry, their biological clock is well and truly ticking! There are pros and cons in marrying young, but we all have free choice - in the UK at least. I feel sad for those in some other countries where girls are forced to become child brides. These are both legally consenting adults.

That's normal behaviour at traveller weddings, though, as they get embarrassed about showing love in a public setting..Travellers never kiss at wedding ceremonies either.

Travellers don't usually have a chance to be alone with their future partner prior to marriage, so they are rarely comfortable together in public initially

Hi, Anne. Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you liked her dress. As for the hairstyle, it's probably as you are not familiar with this way of doing hair for weddings. It's a standard hairstyle for almost all traveller/ gypsy weddings, and also for almost all Muslim weddings, of which I photograph and video even more than I do gypsy weddings, so I can assure you that it's a very much loved and popular hairstyle.

I understand your frustration, Janice, as it would be nice to hear everything the girls are saying, but as they are our clients, I have to respect their wishes not to reveal what they consider to be private conversation. Where appropriate, I believe I edited the music level down, so that their voices could be heard, but as they were also playing copyright music music from the TV, I had no choice but to cover that up or the video would havd been completely blocked in certain countries. Again, as for my choice of music, that is copyright free, I considered it to be a reasonable option rather than absolute silence. If, however, you prefer, you can easily mute the sound and listen to anything else you wish or just watch it in silence. I sadly can't please everyone all of the time, and I actually like this music!

Now that's the first time I've heard anyone say that. Why do you feel it would only suit an older woman, I wonder?

Old enough to be legally married in the UK and a couple of years or so more. Travellers are usually under 25 when they get married.

Lucky you, Wendy! I've been married 3 times, myself, 25 years with husband number 3, but I am HIS wife number 4! I know of 4 gypsy brides who did split up , one after having a baby, but also know of many more who have now got 2, 3 or even 4 childrem, and are fortunately still together. I think the success rate is probably compatible with the rest of the general population.

Yes, traveller girls follow the same bridal makeup fashions as most of my Muslim wedding clients, which is a lot heavier than standard European makeup styles. I've got used to it, as I see it a lot. Glad you liked thd hairstyles, though. These hairstyles, again, are also very popular with my Muslim. wedding clients.

Well, it might be that you've only seen older gypsy weddings? The ones that I tend to video and photograph, have wedding dresses that most of us would be happy to wear.

Thanks for clarifying your original comment, Marianna. Many of my traveller brides have a heavy underskirt like that, as full skirted wedding dresses have stayed popular for many years. It was her choice at the time, and this wedding was a few years ago.

That doesn't actually mean they weren't in love or wanted to be together, though! Travellers rarely give public displays of emotion thos way, and also almost never have a kiss at all in public at the traditional point in their wedding ceremony.

They work the same as everyone else, Marianna, though its mainly the men working outside the home. They often run a landscaping or manual maintenance business. I'm very surprised you made a strongly negative comment about the bride's wedding dress, though, as it was a perfectly pleasing and respectful dress within normal standards for any UK wedding. I'm not sure if you are based elsewhere and have had little experience of weddings in general?

The bride looks like she belongs elsewhere and not amongst this lot. Her dad could have put his false teeth in for the day and at least done up his shirt and tie. The bride is beautiful, but the rest 👎🏻. I’d never ever have given my permission for my daughter to marry this guy.

Fair enough. Traveller men aren't really into wedding pomp and ceremony, so dressing up for the event isn't asinportant to them as it is to you. The women, though, all love a chance to wear their most glamorous outfits. As for her choice of groom, fortunately, it's a personal preference, and we all hope to find the right match for our own individual needs and tastes, don't we, so it doesn't really matter that you don't rate the groom for your own daughter. I hope she chooses wisely and is lucky enough to find a good man who will become a great team with her, long into the future. x

Hi Heather, I understand your reaction, but travellers most often do things differently. Yes, they can be unruly, bit that's because they haven't learned to follow the same codes of conduct as non travellers. The women tend to dress up beautifully, though, and the little girls too, whereas the men are happiest in their jeans. I'm surprised that you thought this was in a church , though. It was in a Register Office..
