Biréli Lagrène has visited my GypsyGuitarAcademy studio again and we recorded this tune called "Smile". Smile is a beautiful harmonic ballad and was originally composed by Charlie Chaplin.

Im in the getto, watching people doing stuff living their lives. Today there is a sun. And it brings this unusual collective smile upon here. Somebody doing heroin, Somebody starts his day whit alcohol.I see older women face in the sun big smile on her face.Shes happy and it makes me happy, make me smile. This is my home, and this is the soundtrack of this moment. Spring is coming in my soul and heart. Music dont watch color of your skin, the money in the bank.And when it hits you. You feel okay! Much love!

Birelli nailed it. Less is oft times more. Joscho is technically so gifted but sometimes it’s just too much. Same as cooking. Keep it simple. Minimal ingredients. Quality. Just brilliant.

I love it! I thought that Biréli was going to improvise on the theme (as it is his habit) whereas there it is Joscho who does it, with brilliance. Bravo to both of them! 👏👏👏

Thank you Joscho for getting Bireli again as you do from time to time. It seems like you 2 get along pretty good. I like how Bireli attitude isn’t to be the most perfect player. He plays with feel and in the moment without too much thinking, sometimes he’s a bit a sloppy for a note or 2, but that’s what i like about it, to just enjoy it more than putting on the most perfect display you possibly can. Bireli should be higher up in France’s well knows musicians, i know it’s more niche than popular music, obviously, but the career he’s had so far, is incredible.
