Same, I can't wait for the Ally 2 and hope to see better performance and/or battery life. Since they have such a good foundation now with AC the new one should be pretty polished.

I like the Ally loads with its power to weight ratio being largely unchallenged. It's been awesome to see the tweaks over time. However, the Legion Go screen side and controllers still make it my daily driver.

Likewise. As Rog Ally user I wish for success of Steam OS and Steam Deck platform. We really need optimised gaming OS and efficient hardware. When Valve solves anti-cheat issue and attracts publishers like Hoyoverse then there is no need in devices on Windows.

@@nvmage yeah exactly. and alot of people want valve to increase the power of the steam deck, but they don't want to go over that 15 watt TDP. or increase the weight. basically because the technology for batteries and APU's is not there yet. i feel asus should make an over kill version of the ally. with a ridiciously large battery and just make it a heavy chunky boy. i always game on a pillow anyway haha. and valve needs to hurry u[p and make steam OS available for all handhelds.

​@@nvmageI don't believe you are an Ally owner. Why do you want steam deck/OS to succeed at the expense of windows? Worst case scenario you would wish Microsoft adapts and make handheld version of windows instead? I don't get it. You wish Valve overcomes the anti-cheat hurdle which is eminent, a limitation and no indication of when this can happen. Yet you wish no handheld is made for windows with the imaginary limitations (windows works great on the Ally). So much for a competition lover.

​@@LennyTabbi once you realize that Microsoft doesn't have anything that officially supports PC gaming handhelds, you'll understand why people wants steam deck OS to improve further and support other gaming handhelds. I have both the Ally and the deck and i gotta say, the steam deck shines the brightest when it comes to handheld gaming experience. But most of us wish it gets more powerful sooner than later and we have the Ally which might not be the ideal hardware valve in mind but it is the most powerful handheld that is available today. We really need that system suspend function so we don't have to set the power button mode to hibernate or accidentally frying our Ally in sleep mode... It's great that valve is now starting to develop official dual-boot and steam deck OS support for other PC handhelds. I wish for both to make a better handheld gaming OS because both has pros and cons. But we already got steam OS while "handheld version of windows" does not exist - or officially available as of today. We will always cheer for things that already exists. So much for a competition lover.

@@LennyTabbi First of all I am real Ally owner and enthusiast. Otherwise, I wouldn't be watching this channel. I went through Windows setup hell of updating drivers, bios and software from 3(!) distributed sources (AsusLink, AMD, Windows), along with regex editing, disabling unnecessary services, and uninstalling unwanted software. I still not able to rid of Defender, Widgets and OneDrive. Despite my efforts, I'm still unable to remove Defender, Widgets, and OneDrive. Ally performs well on Windows right from the box, but to unlock its maximum potential, additional investigation and setup are necessary. To be clear, in the future I want to have handheld that able to launch my beloved games without all this song and dance. I'm not against Windows or Linux, but regarding Microsoft, I don't believe they are truly interested in handheld competition. It seems to me that only Valve is heading in the right direction, and I hope they continue to progress.

You can Set a per game FPS limit with Radeon chill. That way you never have to really mess with the limiter often

45FPS@60Hz is bad as 45 doesn't divide evenly to 60 resulting in judder plus setting to 60Hz disables the VRR completely.

I did notice this, and it's really strange. So I usually just use Gyro for that last tiny bit of movement for precision and it's been working really well. I want to try some driving games next, it'd be fun to have wii style motion controls for driving.

Hey man. I'd say G-Helper is still better for the specific watts for all games. While the profiles are useful, they're also running in Best Performance Mode. I like having control over every game like G-Helper gives. So for us, G-Helper is still the best option, but a lot of people aren't going to want to run 3rd party software and for them setting specific profiles in AC is a nice option. I hope Asus just gives us a global setting soon, or even per game profile where we have a slider and can easily adjust a set watt level. That's one of the last things that missing for me to fully switch over to AC. Hope the info helps :)

Hey, you could clone it but I don't have any tutorials on how to do it. There are a few on KZfaq though if you want to use that method. You could also use the Asus cloud recovery tool. I personally use a USB thumbdrive to do a clean install, but you'll need to run a command to bypass the network requirement or have an ethernet HUB. It's really up to you though on what'd work best. I wish I had guides on this, the only thing I have a guide on is the Asus Cloud Recovery.

@@filt3rless thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure if you had any tutorials as I'd have went to yours if so. I'll take a look at options. Also, I just picked up the legion go for the wife. And my sd card that wasn't working in the ally any longer works perfectly in that. Meanwhile, a brand new card doesn't even work on my ally. So do you think maybe the solder joints melted?

@@nosferatu2690 I think the SD Card has an issue. I ran into the same problem. I ended up just using a bigger NVME and don't mess with the SD Card reader. It's one of the biggest issues on the Ally in my opinion. Here is the video I made on cloud recovery: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndSeZ6iTtbK9k3U.html. However it takes a REALLY long time. If you're familiar with doing a fresh install of windows on other machines, you might want to try that first instead as it'll be a lot faster.

Hey, great catch! I didn't have RSR or Vsync on, but it looks like it has to be set before in game. One thing I did find is it's constantly stuttering every second or so, especially when at a lower FPS cap like 30 or 45FPS. It's really strange how Riva Tuner can be set anytime with a perfectly smooth frametime graph, but the built in one jumps around with stuttering. 60FPS did seem to be smoother, but still dipping every second or so. VRR is amazing though and does seem to help cover the dips.

@@filt3rless Just trying to help, you're the one doing the real work here which I and many others are extremely thankful for. Thanks for that info, I never tested with anything lower than 60fps which is probably why I didn't notice any dips, it seems smooth to me but I'll get the graphs going and test thoroughly at 60, 45, and 30fps cap. And yes, you're correct and I forgot to mention, if you mess with it in Game (that's how I found out) it just breaks. So to me it always worked because I never messed with it, it's always set at 60fps cap for me. I will do more testing as I'm interested in getting all the juice out of this great device. And yes, VRR is Gold! Also RIS is great, makes things sharp at a distance, at 720p, with no fps penalty (like RSR). Thanks again.

Hey, just to make sure you've set it up under the Outer Worlds profile and you have it set to "Auto" in command center? It'll only work if it's set to Auto as the "Gamepad" mode is a global override that doesn't have Gyro.

@@filt3rlessthanks for responding. Yes, it’s set up under the outer worlds profile, and game mode is set to auto. Played around with assigning it to the mouse, to the right joystick, tried different toggling methods, no dice. I enabled gyroscopic mouse control in the start menu one time but it never works in game. Perhaps it’s an issue with the game, I’m not sure.

Hey, it’s most likely a hardware issue. Unfortunately it’s a common issue with the Ally. You could send it in, I ended up just getting a bigger NVME drive.

Hey, I just checked MyAsus and it looks like it's under the "Latest" tab. You have to uncheck the "Show the latest version updates available" and then scroll down till you see utilities and "Armoury Crate SE Installer" should be under there. It has the latest patch notes in it for Gyro so it should be the latest version. Let me know if it works :)

@@ezg8448 Glad it worked! I'm not sure why that was happening to multiple people. I'm guessing it was something with the Asus servers themselves.

Hey, inside the MyAsus app, click on "Latest". Then uncheck the box that says "Show the latest version updates available". Scroll down till you see the "Utilities" section, then look for "Armoury Crate SE Installer". It looks like it's the latest ones as the notes in it show Gyro and all the features they added. Let me know if that get's it working for you :)

Hey, yes I still use G-Helper. I prefer it for the custom watt settings as I also use something called reWASD so I have a shortcut to instantly change on the fly to different power profiles. As soon as we get a TDP slider and a way to set windows to Best Power Efficiency, then I'll probably stop using it. But for now I still like it :)

I heard with the new revisions it has been fixed. I personally don't use the SD Card reader as I have a much earlier model and don't want to risk my SD Card. That is one of the main flaws with the Ally, so if the SD Card is really important, I'd look into other handhelds. I ended up just getting a higher capacity 2230 NVME and it's worth the trade off to me personally.

Hey, yeah I recommend 334 and use it. 323 is great, but I found 334 to be even more stable.

Hey, for Gyro I'd make it so it only activates when you press the left trigger. Then I'd use it just for precise aiming (long distance targets). Having it on and trying to do bigger movements is somewhat annoying. So I only use it for the last little bit of aiming. For close quarters it's not really useful, but really long range it can be amazing :)

Bro, I've got the same problem. It's stuck on the begging. Sometimes it says a connection problem, sometimes it says that downloading has begun, but it's stuck at 0%.

@@user-wm1lx7eo8z Not it worked, Asus must have their servers down or something, all I had to do is wait, which is BAD, asus should have an online installer for that. When that happens DO NOT uninstall armoury crate or do a cloud recovery, they do not work

I have the extreme. As soon as I put the charger on it goes straight to 30w turbo. If I take it off it goes down to 25 turbo

I think so for now, specifically because you can have custom watt profiles that include windows power settings. So I have everything set to "Best Power Efficiency" in G-Helper so windows doesn't change. If Asus adds a TDP slider and an option to keep windows in efficiency mode, then I'd probably stop using G-Helper.

Yeah it’s never worked. Not sure why they haven’t found a way to fix it yet. It’s the same way on my AMD laptop, V-Sync in AMD doesn’t do anything. With Nvidia cards everything works great, just not AMD based ones :/

Try AMD chill. That FPS limiter works even in windowed games, reliably, and uses a more modern technology with less input lag than FRTC.

How important is the bigger screen and detachable controls? If those aren't as important, than the Ally is the way to go as it has way better sound, better display (VRR, native landscape, anti-reflective), more portable, better button placement (start/back buttons), better software (AC is miles ahead of Legion Space right now), etc. I still wouldn't trust the SD Card reader on the Ally though as it's known to go out. So if you must have an SD Card reader, that's another reason to get the Legion Go.

Hey, I haven't tested Gyro in Horizon 5, but it should work in any game because gyro is mimicking the joystick. The thing with Gyro is it can take some tweaking to get it to feel proper in games.

It’s great for battery saving. I sometimes even knock it down to 12 :)

@@randomunknown0 maybe sometimes 10w doesn't reach 50 fps in game for example, bump up tdp to 12 or 13w will get him to 60fps which is a sweet spot for smooth gaming

​@@randomunknown0the difference between 10W and 13W is actually very huge in Ally unlike Deck.... You get about 20-30% performance for just 3W

I only have it activate when pressing the left trigger in and it's very fine aiming. I turned the sensitivity down even more than I had it in the video for long distance accuracy. You might want to give that a go. I think it's most useful for just very slight movement after you've already aimed in and are close to the target.

I'm going to give it a try, also tried it on Star Wars Squadrons works better there :)
