The first time I heard of ion propulsion was in the late '50s or early '60s, on a non-fiction science TV show with Baxter Ward and Dr. Martin L. Klein, called Adventure Tomorrow (The Documentary of the Future). At the time I had the impression that this was absolutely brand new NASA tech, but it turns out that Hermann Oberth had written about it in the '30s, but the first to think about it seem to have been Robert Goddard (1906) and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1911). Goddard even built a demonstrator that used ionized air as a reaction mass in 1916-17. Amazing how long it's taken for this idea to bear fruit.

2 stroke not that bad with issues compared with others. 2 stroke lighter than 4 stroke but the more pricy gyros are 4 stroke

Most single-place ultra light aircraft - fixed and rotorcraft - use 2-cycle engines, whereas virtually all two-place aircraft use 4-stroke. When you go below 80 HP, there just aren't any options for 4-stroke engines light enough to be practical for the smallest aircraft. Once you get to that threshold, 80+ HP, 2-strokes don't make sense due to very high maintenance, very little if any weight savings, and relatively low operational reliability - especially for cross-country travel. The most reliable, best power-to-weight, and cheapest engine used on all aircraft today is Yamaha Genesis 4-stroke, and there are to date at least 200 examples. After riding motorcycles regularly for the past few years, it looks dangerous to be flying with 3/4 helmets (or NO helmet), no leather jackets or gloves or boots. I wear a $600 full face helmet, protective armor jacket, leather gloves, long pants and leather boots when I ride to give my head its best chance to survive and the rest of my body a fighting chance to survive a crash.

Yes, it works like a fixed wing aircraft. The rotor is not powered. It acts as the replacement of the wings to provide lift.

Not like a helicopter, but in a weird way, it can remain over one spot, dropping vertically to keep air passing through the rotor. They will come down at about 1000 feet per minute so you need to regain forward speed before you can land to have enough lift to flare into the landing.

None of these should be allowed to take off without over the shoulder safety harnesses. Many had over the lap safety belts which is not good enough.

Перед роликом - реклама, как чувак летит без всякого вертолёта, да ещё и с топором... Прелесть! - топор как средство передвижения. Это не метла какая-то.. Кстати, грузинский мультик "Топор" посмотрите - та ещё тема)) Снят на Арменфильме в 1994 году. Про отопительный сезон прошедший и в перспективе "где-то там, где мало газа..."

I want to see these fly cross country and fly where PARAGLIDERS GO,it's boring just watching them fly circuits and at$70,000 you can buy 7 PARAGLIDERS for the Same money,and these do fall out of the sky at times.years ago I used to see lots of giro,s flying but nowadays never see any it must be the cost or the regs or the plain danger of flying them. ,m talking about Australia now. No, papa, esta nave se fabrico para seguridad, es una de la mas seguras, inclusive, aunque el motor se pare, y si eres buen piloto la puedes aterrizar sin ningun tipo de problema, pues las helices son autogiratorias y no se detienen....
