Казаки это не национальность и не народность. Это сословие. Запорожский казак вполне мог происходить из русских, поляков или условных украинцев, а мог вообще не относится к славянской группе. Казак - примерно тоже самое что и викинги для всех северных германцев.

Let me see if I understand this. The picture shows the answer of the Zaporozhian cossacks to the sultan. The song is about the Don cossacks under lord Stenka Razin (1630-1671) fighting the Russian czar. The city of Zaporozhia is located along Dniepr and still in Ukrainian hands, although the orchs have occupied parts of the historical region of Zaporozhia in Donbass. The river Don is entirely in Russia.

But like most westeners my knowledge of Ukrainian history is very spotty, and I would like to understand what it is that I'm listening to. King Karl XII and Hetman Mazepa, blue and yellow 4-ever.

@@ThomasL58 Oh, i'm really sorry, i misundestood the message. So, Don cossacks were basically "children" of Zaporizhian Sich, because cossack army from Don was formed from volunteers, rebels against the tsar and, after the fall of Zaporizhian sich after the mass deportation of cossacks on russian territory, from veteran cossacks. In regions like Kuban' and Belgorod they even spoke ukrainian, so, you could pretty much say, that the river Don was under cossack control, at least partially. And this song is about them. Never forget the King and the Hetman Sweden and Ukraine forever

Very nice karl, you never dissapoint, and got a recomendation for ye "Polye polyaska"(probably butchered it) but you can. Also find it as "Field oh my field"

@@Oniliker This is Kuban or Don "Cossack" song which is russified Ukrainian Zaporzhian and Ukrainian Hetmanete Cossacks

@@lorus1723 The Kuban Cossacks were Ukrainians in the service of the Russian Empire before their destruction by the Communists. The Don Cossacks have Ukrainian roots, but they were removed much earlier.
