Glad to run into this historical record. Louis was my friend in high school, and we played the high school band and in the George L. Giles Drum and Bugle Corps together. I went with Louis to his first audition in showroom on 47th and Drexel. He got the gig---and didn't look back. I had been looking to connect with him for years, but never did. I haven't seen him in 60+ years. Sorry to see he had passed away. Blessing to you my brother. "Strawberries."

RIP brother! Louis influenced me tremendously when I picked up the bass guitar after playing the drums for many years. His work as an electric blues bass player on Muddy Waters' (my fav electric blues player) "Electric Mudd" and "After the Rain" has so much feel and the sound is incredible!! I didn't know he taught Verdine!! Such an amazing and spiritual soul!! Thanks for posting this amazing interview :-)

@@FunkRockGroove I’ve seen your post across some EWF videos and have gotten curious myself about whether Satterfield was the bass player on those records. It seems people get highly offended when anyone suggests that Verdine wasn’t the bass player behind those iconic bass lines. Serpentine Fire is one of the tunes that is most telling cause of the slap tone and deep sound.
@johnwatson8658

Let’s not get it twisted…Verdine was and is a great bassist. He not only is classically trained, he learned directly from Satterfield and from another outstanding bassist Cleveland Eaton (ya betta ask somebody) who replaced the late great Eldee Young in the Ramsey Lewis trio…and Maurice White (later Morris Jennings) replaced the living legend Red Holt.

Never forget Satt's Old Kay Bass getting the Headstock chopped off by the metal ceiling fan, when Chuckaluck lifted it from its stand at the old Studio. Chuckaluck didn't tell Him what happened for over a Week, so He could bring it to a Luthier for repair. It sounded like a hell after the work. One of the most gifted Players I have ever known. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting this amazing musician in the late 80's or early 90's. To our surprise and delight he accompanied (on bass) another legend, guitarist Cash MaCall in a performance in our small club in Edmonton. I think Mr Satterfield's pay for the evening was $75. A very sweet guy, polite, humble and very complimentary to all. Magic night for everyone.

But I recognized him (& the Phoenix Horns) from other older KZfaq video footage that I have saved (of both EWF & Phil Collin's concert performances). I previously had no idea that he was such a talented multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, etc. *Also it was soo sad to stumble upon other KZfaqr's brief explanations of what happened to exceptional saxophonist Don Myrick (murdered by CA police).
