ਢੱਡ ਪ੍ਰਚੀਨ ਅਵਨਧ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ।
ਡੌਰੂ,ਡਮਰੂ,ਕੁੜਵਾ,ਡਿਮਡਿਮੀ ਆਦਿ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਡਮਰੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਸਥਾਨ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੀ ਢੱਡ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਸਾਜ਼ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੀ ਵਜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਦੋਂ ਢੱਡ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਚੰਦ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਢੱਡ ਤਾਲ ਦੀ ਕਸੌਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਹਾਗੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੱਥੇ,ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਥਾ,ਲੈਲਾ ਮਜਨੂੰ,ਵਾਰਾਂ,ਹੀਰ ਰਾਂਝਾ,ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮਾਹੀਂਵਾਲ,ਸੱਸੀ ਪੁਨੂੰ,ਦੁੱਲਾ ਭੱਟੀ,ਜਿਉਣਾ ਮੋੜ ਦੇ ਕਿੱਸੇ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕਿ ਢੱਡ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਢੱਡ ਸਾਰੰਗੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਫ਼ੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਬਣਾਵਟ ਇਹ ਅੰਬ,ਟਾਹਲੀ, ਤੂਤ, ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਮ ਆਦਿ ਲਕੜੀ ਦੀ ਬਣੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਲੰਬਾਈ ਦਸ ਉਂਗਲ ਤੋ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਂਗਲ ਤਕ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।ਡਮਰੂ ਦੇ ਆਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਪਿਚਕਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।Dhad is one of the ancient Avandh instruments.
Daoru, Damru, Kurdwa, Dimdimi etc. belong to the caste of instruments. It is slightly larger than Damru. In the folk songs of Punjab, the place given to the sarangi is the same place given to the dhad. The real thing is that these two instruments are played together in the folk songs of Punjab. When folk songs are sung on the drum sarangi, the sarangi accompany the music with their tunes, and she puts four moons on it, and takes the cue of the dud tal and speaks sweetly and sweetly. In Punjab, the stories of Jatha, Pram Katha, Laila Majnu, Vaaran, Heer Ranjha, Sohni Mahinwal, Sassi Punu, Dulla Bhatti, Jiwana Mor, which are sung as kalians on the Dhad Sarangi, are very popular. Apart from this, many songs are also sung on the Dhad Sarangi. It is made of wood such as mango, tahli, mulberry, sheesham etc. Its length can be from ten fingers to twelve fingers. Like the shape of a drum, its middle part is twisted.
