-which cruise were you on? we were on the aquamarine cruise, though we didn't specifically choose it. we booked our trip through viator, after which a tour agency matched us to a cruise (likely based on availability and price).
-how much did it cost? our cruise cost $310 at the time of booking. however, our tour agency contacted us via whatsapp around a week in advance to ask if we wanted to upgrade to a higher end cruise for $20 per person (we said yes). the final total was around $350 for two people.
-what activities were included? most 2 day 1 night cruises will follow a very similar itinerary, likely some variation of a pearl factory visit, kayaking at luon cave, hiking at titop island, cave exploration at sung sot cave, sunset party, cooking class, squid fishing, karaoke, and tai chi at sunrise. the biggest difference between the different cruises is probably the food on board and the quality of the amenities. if transportation to and from hanoi to ha long bay is important to you, double check that your cruise provides that as part of the booking.
-was it worth it? i would say this is very subjective - if you're looking for an immersive vietnamese culture experience or traveling on a budget, i would stay away and instead enjoy hanoi or another city, as this package is definitely geared towards tourists. however, if you're looking for an easy way to escape the city, see some beautiful scenery, and relax a bit, the cruise is a good option. if you're planning on visiting ha long bay anyway, i would definitely choose the overnight cruise vs. a day excursion on a boat - there is simply too much to see and do.
-any extra tips? we were offered free private car transportation from hanoi to hanoi airport in exchange for leaving a 5 star review on tripadvisor, so it is very likely that there are many fake reviews online. other than that, have fun and remember to bring ramen 😊

I think those whom do the 2-3 night cruises have a better experience. One, you get away from that area where all the cruise ships congregate. Two, oft times those cruises have their own private island and cave you can explore so you're not fighting the crowds. If you do it again, go for the 2 night one, but not during the rainy or cold season. Make sure you're not going when it's a holiday, weekend, or when school is out as you can be fighting other tourists...although I think the 2-night cruises automatically remove many crazy tourists. And other cruisers said their food was really good. Yours was the first one to mention food running out or bad food. Also consider doing the Ha Giang Loop (you guys can do the easy rider version if you don't know how to ride a motorcycle yourselves), Ninh Binh, and Sa Pa (Fansipan)...all have amazing views on land.

I have seen much better cruises from other channels, I guess this one you chose wasnt the best choice but was still a good time for the two sisters.

Hello: What happened that made you feel harassed by the cruise staff & other passengers? I am looking at going on a cruise like yours, but I would be a female traveling solo. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Nothing major but things like repeatedly taking pictures/videos of us, making us sit with them, asking personal questions...one of the passengers invited us into his room lol. Hope that helps

Went on a cruise at Ha Long Bay three weeks ago and had a better ticket so the food didn't run out.. but I agree that the food were bland.. but I guess they do it for the foreigners that isn't custom to the asian spices.. however we had great service throughout our visit. The supper were also a little hit or miss because they had the same problem with the food being bland. I think the trip is more worth it if you go for the 3day 2night travel because you have to leave the boat so early -but perhaps different boats have different times.. we had to eat brunch at 10 and leave the boat at 11.30 so if it's only for a night you miss out on alot. Also a note that our boat had a speaker system that went on at 6.30 am telling everybody that breakfast was ready and it were impossible to sleep through it.
