My first time watching this movie I cried for about 45 minutes straight. I was about 25 years old, male. It wasn't bawling tears, crying my eyes out or anything. But they wouldn't stop coming. Like a sad but beauty at the same time. No movie has ever came close to doing such. When anyone wants to talk sad movies, I always throw in Hachi.

My husband has been blessed with bonding with two dogs in his life to date. The bonds were so strong that I had to physically take them outside to the bathroom as neither one would leave his side when he was sick in bed. They refused food and water as well unless I brought the bowls to his bed. Unfortunately one has passed and the other one is still with us. She's old now but still remains faithfully beside him.

I wish I can go to Japan and visit the Hachi statue. My foster parents had a couple of really nice dogs when I was growing up. I loved them. When Casey passed from an accident, I was devastated. Puppy breath is the best smell on the planet. Old Yeller is a lovely story and a classic Disney film. Movies about dogs are almost always wonderful and sad. The dog almost always dies at the end. Dogs teach us how to grieve.I have nothing against cats, I've just never had one. This film is directed by Lasse Halstrom, a Swedish director. He directed some Abba videos, but also directed What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, My Life As A Dog and A Dog's Purpose (Apparently he really likes dogs.) and his first name sounds like Lassie. My dog Rufus is a very active dog, but he doesn't play fetch. He watches the person throw the ball and then says "Cool".

One of my all time favorite singers wrote a song inspired by the story of Hachi. She wrote it before this movie was made, but I think the movie was already being made by the time she released the song. She's from the US but as a teen got signed on to a S.Korean company. So in her travels as a kpop singer they visited Japan & she heard the story, & having dogs of her own that she loved she got inspired to write a heartfelt song about the true & loyal love dogs have. It's in Korean & English mixed. It's called Love Run by Amber Liu. No official video, only a couple of fan made vids, but very pretty.

Me, had 2 cats adopted a 3rd. Noah & NeeHi siblings, last year 2022 I woke up to 16yr old Noah not being able to walk took him to the Vet, needless to say I returned home without him. The 1st day Neehi didn't trip but the 2nd day she started going from room to room looking for him and started to 'cry'. She cried EVERY DAY for a year. Didn't matter how much time I spent with her, she'd cried, she stopped using her litter box, did all kinds of things, bought a new box maybe she couldn't climb into her old one, laid doggie pee pee pads down in front of the litter box, then she stopped eating would just lay on her bed, still would cry from time to time. Took her to the Vet, the attendant looked into the carrier, immediately took her to an exam room. Came back to the waiting room and said NeeHi had passed. Guys, sometime between home (still alive) and the doctor she joined her brother this year 2023, almost a year to the day. Noah had passed in January NeeHi a year later in February, she was 17. And yes I had them since they were 3 months old. I miss my little fuzzballs. Seeing this movie with you guys today brought the tears. NeeHi, missing her brother, I really believe, died of a broken heart.💔😥

Started when I was 15 back in 1972 and he always told his clients, when you select a new pet, be it dog, cat, or horse, let the animal choose you. This dog lived by his choice. Sadly moving.

The breed of dog is wonderful. They are called Japanese Akita Inu, once used for Japanese Royalty. If you ever wanted one you would need the space, they grow really big. Shiba Inu look very similar but stay small. They have a statue of the actual Hachiko and its Master place at Shibuya station in Tokyo, Japan.

The dog is an Akita Inu (As opposed to an American Akita) from the Odate region of Japan.Hachiko was an actual dog and the movie is based on a true story that happened in Tokyo. This movie got me very interested in Akitas and I ended up getting my first (American) Akita in 2012.

If Old Yeller is about a loyal dog Hachi said hold my beer. Also, the 1st personn in the USA to havr an Akita was Helen Keller. She received it as a gift from Japan.

I moved countries with my two fur boys a few months ago. They had to travel in the hold of the plane and I was so worried about them especially since I couldn't be on the same connection. They went from Dublin to Madrid, stayed there overnight and then from Madrid to Barcelona. I picked them up at the airport and they didn't make a sound all the way to our new home. It almost broke my heart. Now 3 months later we've all settled in well and they wake me up purring and chirping again. They actually love our new (so much warmer and sunnier) home. It cost me about 1400 € (so about 1500 $) including the vet visits, vaccinations, travel crates (they could not even be in the same crate as per airline regulations) .... I am not made of money, but I would not have taken the opportunity (promotion within the company) and relocated, if that would have meant going without them 😺❤😺

And My Dad and I sat in our car and cried when we had to leave our Dog "Snoopy" at the Veterinarian, he was "Irish Setter and German Shepard mix". He was actually my older brother's Dog, until he married and left home. Snoopy was chewing the hair on his hips off, my Mom said that he was dying, she could smell the Cancer on him. He had Lymph Node cancer in his hips ....he was a very sweet dog and looked so confused when we left him. They were going to keep him calm with pain pills until my Brother came home from vacation, Kenny told me that he took Snoopy to the park and spent time with him and then he held him while they put him to sleep. My parents wouldn't get another dod after that. They had a dog before I came along named Skippy, he died and they decided to get Snoopy. But after getting attached to two dogs and them both passing.....they decided to not get another dog. 😥

25:32.. U called it right, Amber--IThat's why he didn't want Parker to go after they played catch..he knew his heart was in bad rhythm ( They can hear better than any stethescope).30:15.Another good idea--Take Hachi to the burial, He'd have figured it out. (Nothing beats a Dog's sense of smell) You guys need a Dog movie with a happier ending after this one. Try "White Fang" (1992)..Young Gold Prospector Ethan Hawke and a Half-Wolf/Dog begin as enemies, but save each other's lives and become brothers against the hostile Yukon outback and murdering gold-thieves.

The loyalty of Akitas is real. My son got his first Akita 12 years ago and now has a 2nd. I have a Shiba Inu (which is the breed the puppy in the movie is) and an Akita. These dogs are amazing and SO smart. And no, they don’t play fetch. It is as if they are insulted by the notion. They are AMAZING dogs. I absolutely loved watching this with you. ❤❤❤❤

The one I love about dogs Is there pure and loyal but there not driven by greed or hate like humans. They don't act human they are loyal and good companions. And will be there for you. As long as you treat them good, they will be good back to you. I love how smart they are too how to train to for recuse and helping out others.

Amber! You said that you love Richard Gere's silver hair. My daughter is a hair stylist at a resort hotel. She called me one day to tell me that she did Richard Gere's hair! "Mom! I had Richard Gere's head in my hands in my shampoo bowl!" He was scheduled under a different name, and he was very nice, and of course, very handsome!

My sister wanted to move to Hawaii and found out she would have to quarantiee their dog so she decided not to cause she couldn't lock him up. I took my dog in from a co-woker who found him. My Rusty was the best dog ever. My buddy had an Akita great dogs. He made his own dog food for him and you couldn't lay down next to him if you weren't his owner or he get mad.

Old Yeller is a very emotional story, both the book and movie r classic greats. I had an Akita named Buddy for 9 yrs. Love how their tails curl. Such smart, beautiful, loving animals. Sadly chasing a cat in the back woods he broke his back. He lived a few yrs in diapers and dog wheelchair but couldnt hold out, hard keeping him comfortable and out of pain in the end. Big part of our family lost. We r big dog people too, like u not to fond of cats either. But all animals r precious to existence, I think. Thanx so much, take care, Peace

I'm not a dog person, strictly cats for me. Most dog people don't realize how smart cats are. My daughter kept her balcony door slightly open so her 2 cats could out on it. Her older cat would sit on the boxes, watch folks. Then she got Ginger, maybe now about 2 or 3 yrs old disappeared. She went out looking for frantic because we get raccoons and we also get crows. She's asking everyone that comes in the courtyard if they'd seen her? Back outside that night still looking for her, had the Security Guard helping her look.. still no Ginger. The next day while she was sleep, she hears crying she wakes up Ginger looking her in the face crying cause now after being gone all day and ALL NIGHT she's hungry. She just saunters in like nothing happened. The tramp! Lol

A Native American parable says: "The Great Spirit decided to separate the worlds of animals and man. He gathered all the living beings on a great plain and drew a line in the dirt. On one side of the line stood man, and on the other stood all the animals of the earth. When that line began to open up into a great canyon, and before it became too great to cross, the dog jumped over and stood by man." These words are forever etched into my heart.

Think you should see a young Richard Gere in An Officer and Gentleman. By the way, I grew up with a beagle - 77-19 - named him Silk for his silky ears. He was the most loving, loyal and protective dog, kinda like Old Yeller
