Hachiroku Heaven! We head to AE86 Festival In Okayama. Japan's largest annual gathering of Levin and Trueno's celebrating the AE86 & AE85 chassis. From N2 race cars to Initial D machines, this is arguably the greatest 86 gathering on earth.
In 2019 we went back to Japan. Hungry for more after "Japan Without a Plan", we aimed to seek out AE86's, Street drifting, Kanjo culture, tuning shops and much more.
In this twelve-part special, we buy another van and travel up the east coast, documenting as much as we could, getting ourselves into some hilarious situations.
Enjoy our journey through Japanese car culture over the next few weeks. This one has been a long time coming.

Technically mk4 Starlet, and 2nd generation of Starlet Turbo as the EP71 was the 1st Starlet Turbo available. But that is the best version of the EP82 in my eyes

For a crew that passionate about cars going to a festival that caters to your own definition of perfection, I get it. It's almost too hard not to want to give everything the attention it deserves. But you all did a wonderful job documenting the experience. I don't think there would have been anything that could have been done to prepare for this. And, if for whatever reason you feel like you didn't do the trip justice, well now you have a reason to go back there every year ;) I bet you showed so many people projectpictures of the car back home. That's what tightens the connections. Family bonds, shared passion. I love how everyone has their own little moment that defined the trip to them. Awesome to have all those perspectives together. Thanks again for sharing mates. This has once again been one of the highlights of my week!

Cheers for the feedback, and the kind words, I'm glad you could sense certain situations from the video, especially trying to document everything, trying to push aside the overwhelming amount of cars, and focus on documenting the day for a future video was a proper challenge but I'm glad it worked out in the end.

I grew up with Tamiya, Arii, Otaki, Imai etc, and then it was Sega, Nintendo all in the early 80s, so i was always fascinated by the Japanese. I'd say at the core of the Japanese people is discipline, respect for each other, and a great intense passion for anything they turn their minds to. Truly a culture worth preserving. Great videos btw lads, very professionally put together. Kudos.

I got goosebumps watching you drive that 86 - green, stripped out, rattling and loud... and just the biggest smile on your face :D I have just gotten my old golf 2 16v GTI out of the shed (only 10 years in there) and drove it 300km in 5 degrees with the window down because of the smell of fuel in the cabin... But my god I loved it!!! These old cars are just amazing. Thanks for bringing us on this journey you call Juicebox! Hope to catch you one day!

That has to be the shortest half hour film in history, just gone too soon! Your enthusiasm for the whole event and the pure joy of being there is positively infectious, and I can scarce imagine how great it must have been. I could *feel* that moment Flip described, of just taking it all in, and I think in his situation I'd also struggle to believe it was really happening. And I totally believe you could make videos on just about any car there and we'd be happy about it. Thanks for much for taking us on this epic journey with you all

Thanks! Yeah the plan was to go back this year, and try do another similar adventure, but Covid put a stop to the plans. Maybe 2022? We will just have to see how things pan out.

In 2008 I lived in Kamigori, which you probably passed thru on the way to the circuit. I was walking to the convenience store shortly after the event ended, and just sat there as 86 after 86 kept passing by. I know the exact feeling you guys had at this event.

I have to say this is probably the best damn video I've ever seen on youtube. I too share a love for the '86 and for the whole Japanese car culture obviously. Had flights ready for last April but unfortunately covid hit and that's been cancelled. Just your voices, your faces and expressions were so sincere and literally made me feel like I was there with you. Thank you Neil, Flip and Ruben!

I know how you feel! We had plans to go back this year and everything has been destroyed, even re watching this footage and editing the videos has us craving another adventure. Hopefully you can make it happen when the restrictions lift. Glad this video was a little booster, hopefully you can find yourself in the same awesome situations when you do make it out there.
