“Ranma Saotome, a young fighter must face his worst rival … his own shadow! After a failed training, it kidnaps Akane and takes over Furinkan High School. You do not have much time. Hurry up, save Akane!”
On his 5th anniversary as a romhacker, the author of this hack gives a deep facelift to one of his first projects, renaming it Ranma vs. Ranma!
Features list:
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING has been improved: title screen, HUD, backgrounds and sprites (always keeping in mind that this is an old game).
Cameos of characters have been added or modified: let’s see if you recognize them all ;).
It is planned in the future to expand and improve the project, with the addition of music from the Anime and the option to play with Ranma-Chan.

Boss 2 looks possibly like it could be Hikaru trying out a new approach - only to get the same-as-it-ever-was results.

Common enemies/Knife thrower/1st & 2nd boss share a lot of assets. Thats why they look somewhat generic.

It could stand to have a few more characters to act as enemies like Kodachi Kuno (as Boss 2), or Hiroshi and Daisuké (Ranma's classmates, as the Common Enemy).

@@blukmage19typeR I'd like to, but as I said, 2nd Boss is basically same sprite as Gosunkugi. All of his assets are recycled except for the hand that holds the hammer/boomerang. I can't do much about the regular enemies either. Basically, if I modify one I would modify all the regular enemies. The only way to take the hack to another level would be with a programmer. That way I could expand the rom memory (to add graphics) or even add new directions to those graphics to for example, make Kuno wear his regular clothes, add a 2nd boss more distinctive and of course, a final Boss that doesn't share almost all his assets with Ranma. If anyone wants to contact me to help me I'm all ears ^^.

Gracias! Como amante de la NES, me parecía una injusticia que no disfrutáramos de un juego decente de Ranma en este sistema 👾 Y en realidad éste es mi 2o intento (el hack original lo hice en 2018, pero hacía tiempo que quería actualizarlo con lo que he aprendido con el tiempo). Por cierto, este año tuvimos un remake del anime Urutsei Yatsura que ya tiene confirmada su 2a temporada. Ojalá con Ranma sigan el mismo camino 🤞🏻

It's Ranma Nibunoichi is a martial arts anime where the protagonist turns into a woman when doused with cold water. There are several games for SNES from this anime.

It's actually a pretty fun Anime and Manga. Everything is a type of martial art, and I do mean everything, even pretending you're a cat or doing simple mining. Obviously you have to have a big sense of humor as it leans heavily on the jokes.

Ranma's peak of popularity and its arrival in Anime format coincided with the 16-bit era (1989). So It's not weird that they focused on publishing games in consoles like the PC Engine, Super Famicom, Sega-CD, Game Boy and finally the PSX and forgot about our beloved NES 💔. With this hack I wanted to fix that 💪🏻

It’s an anime and manga from the creator of Inuyasha. A ton of games for it came out in Japan, one of which even made its way to the US on the SNES called Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle.

This game is a Kung Fu hack and a tribute to Ranma. Mr. X (the final Boss) uses the same assets as Thomas (the main character): so it was essential to use someone similar to Ranma as the villain. That's why I thought of Ranma's shadow (ch 112 of the Anime). Ranma was buying an incense that allowed him to split and train against a dark reflection of himself. But the more he used the incense, the more autonomy the shadow had, until it caused serious problems. So the game would fit as an OVA in which Ranma's shadow kidnaps Akane to lure Ranma into the fight and takes control of the Furinkan Institute.

Thanks! The 1st version of this hack comes from 2018, but with what I learned these years, I felt I could do it more justice with some extra work. It's not a masterpiece, it doesn't have everything I would have liked. But without a skilled programmer supporting me, it's the best hack I can do.

Totally agreed. I even thoug that Ranma will be a cool choice to make a TLOZ hack, but changing the backgrounds to have some chinese feel.

This first boss should have been have been made Kuno. The second boss should have been Mousse. The 4th boss should have been Cologne, and the final boss should have been Ryoga.

El hack está lejos de incluir todo lo que me hubiera gustado, pero te aseguro que no es porque no lo haya intentado. Tratándose de un juego de apenas 40 kilobytes de memoria, es fácil imaginar que hay multitud de elementos que se repiten o reciclan. Uno de ellos es el Boss, que en el juego original no era más que un cambio de paleta con una cabeza diferente. Eso condicionó mucho qué enemigo final elegir. Por mi pudo ser Ryoga, aunque no le veo capaz de hacer ningún mal a Akane, por lo que de haber podido, hubiera tirado de alguien como Taro Panty Bonico.

@@nicosauseador Es una cuestión de gustos y Ryoga como he dicho, no me parece una mal opción, pero a lo que iba es que el Boss original es calcado al prota excepto la cara. Eso no me daba casi juego para añadirle detalles reconocibles al diseño. Por eso en cuanto pensé "alguien calcado a Ranma" me acordé del capítulo 112 del Anime y de Ranma-sombra.
