Using a piezoelectric igniter (also called a shocker or a zapper by some), from an electric lighter to get free credits on a crane game! This also works with many other coin payment systems, including children's rides and even some vending machines. The trick is to find the right place to zap.
As anyone who has used one of these will know, claw games are entirely a rip off. The claw strength is set randomly each game, and with this machine there's approximately a 2% chance of it being strong enough to actually lift the prize. That means with this machine you would need to spend $40 to stand a good chance at winning. So it's not a "skill tester" because anyone can align the claw correctly, but rather it's a blatant gamble.
This is a demonstration of poor electrical shielding, and while many machines are immune to this, there's still many more in existence that are not.

The strength of the claw is randomly set between "not nearly strong enough" and "barely strong enough". The payout rate for this machine was such that 1 in 50 attempts had enough strength to lift the prize.

Pretty much spot on, one contact from the piezoelectric igniter comes out the end, and I kept the trigger mechanism, but there other contact is incorporated into the handle so I'm touching it to ground it when I pull the trigger.

Great questions! It's hard to know where to zap -- just trial and error really, but often it's a screw near the coin slot. It'll work on most older machines but it has no affect on some modern machines. Sometimes it'll cause the machine to reboot and you'll see the display test when it boots up. It also works on other coin machines, like some really old vending machines, etc.

You can go to jail by doing it this way zapping a machine with a lighter . But you can't go to jail by clicking buttons on a machine

This one is just a lighter with the gas parts removed and modified so that I'm touching one of the igniter wires (to ground it), and the other is the one you can see in the video with the spark jumping from it.

I've known about this since 1994. Kids used to get the clicker out of old gas ovens and do this. Then they started installing alarms on arcade machines. Do new machines still have alarms? I'm not kidding, I remember kids doing it and machines making beeping noises to alert the operator....

yes in fact the coin pusher is known for it because people would shake the machine to get money so the machines are catching up with the hackers so it may not work.

theres a piezo igniter theres no fire its basicly a lighter without fire and just giving electricity instead of fire but i confuses the game because motion from the quarter makes electrictit he hacked it

It does work. You just have to find the right place to shock. It works for vending machines too.

Well there's no set method as far as I've found, so it's all trial and error. Just experiment by zapping everything! But if it's a reasonably modern machine (made in the last 5 years or so) it's less likely to work :( Let us know if it does work though!

,do you have to strike the zapper near the nails of the machine? should the lead 1 touch the nail of the machine or a few millimetres away? and is it ok if the zapper lead 2 is touching the plastic inside the lighter so that it is grounded because i can see the spark coming from the wire it works.. i tried this on one of those basket ball machines and i got 3 credits on the machine and 1 credit on the machine next to it? but then when i tried again it didnt happen..need some explanations please

You can get a small click spark generator from any old electric start propane grill. The little button you push to turn the grill on......they make that same spark.
