@@jju00 plus once the option is toggeled he will still have dialogue pointing out the pause, being more honorable and awaits your return. and also some funny idle animation and dialogue as he moves around the paused screen.

@@alfredong6850 There's so few people that can't play a sustained boss fight that also play Hades, if you can't beat him without pausing just get stronger and kill him quicker. Its supposed to be a challenging game after all.

So many characters with the ability to stop time, but this is probably the first time I've seen someone literally say, "no." when you try and pause the game and casually unpauses it. Edit: it is going to be fun to look at the various examples shared by various commenters. Thank you for sharing.

@@dimitrihoog7001well they gods in broad sense, but greeks have names for every generation of godish beings - "titans" for parents of olympians, "gods" for olympians (and their children), and "giants" for next generation, created by Gaia, that supposed to defeat olympians but they stopped the cycle. Also "heroes" is half-gods half-humans. But they also mix things up, call people from olympic generation - titans, and from previous - gods, and call "heroes" even not half-gods, also primordial deities, like Gaia, somehow didnt get a name so they "gods" too. Utter mess. To make more sense out of this, consider "titans" as a nickname of group of gods that rebelled against Uranus and started whole "son overthrows father" trend. Because "titan" means "expanded"/"defied his limitations" and thats how Gaia is named them after the thing.

Chronos and Kronos are two different deities. Chronos is the primordial god of time and Kronos is the titan and father of the Olympians (and many other titans). Kronos was the one that ate his children.

For anyone worried about emergencies: Supergiant clearly thought of this and added an upgrade you can buy after the first time this happens so you can pause it during the fight in later runs if you want to. So relax. Chronos will only fuck you the first time this happens. ...Unless you choose not to get the upgrade for shits and giggles, anyway.

@@jac6548not only a game but a roguelike one, where dying is very integrated into gameplay loop and much more "ooh, okay" than "FUUUUU...!" (unless you got crazy lucky run and then died because of some stupid reason, only then)

@@AtticusKarpentersure, but there is losing in the game as part of the experience and a "oh, you managed to clear the other bosses, well here's me with not many attacks that are telegraphed, demanding perfect reaction times, and then a phase 2 that if you manage to reach it somehow, a wrong move will instagib you". There is losing and then there is unfairness. Much like the fight with Eris where she gradually hits you with a +100% / +200% damage received debuff, like, thanks devs, okay, you really don't want me to kill the boss unless I am in the 1% or whatnot. And before you say "oh, god mode", well, god mode cannot help you when Chronos phase 2 hits you for > 1.5k damage if you make the moves wrong. What a nice way to close a 1hr run. Thanks Supergiant.

@PhilipAlexanderHassialis just from my experience, Roguelikes get either way too easy, or supremely hard once you hit the late stages of a run. I'd honestly prefer them to get hard, cause then I at least have something to strive for, and deep dive into builds and weapon choices. Makes strategy for each run way more important once you know that you don't just become God after a certain point. Risk of Rain 2 is a good example. Eventually, you get so powerful you can almost just stand still and clear a zone. That's really boring. Hades at least makes me try continuously, no matter what stage of a run I'm at. It may take me hours of attempst to beat Chronos, but that just means the satisfaction and sense of achievement once I do is going to be amazing.

@@InsomniaticDeathWish Thing is though, sure, I get it, but my "thing to strive for" is the story and the naughties. I couldn't care less for the fights. I am here for the emotional scarring (Hades 1 made me bawl my eyes out, I expect the same here) and all relationships. The fights just get in the middle of me grinding for the materials to close up the prophecies list and the relationship bonds. I mean sure ok, fighting is good etc, but it's not my cup of tea. But the stories, oh the stories are so good.

Yeah, I think those who complain about "eventual real life issues requiring the pause" are overdramatizing things. Aside from the ability to buy a countermeasure after the first encounter, on the off chance you rly get screwed over IRL in that moment, just go again. That's what the genre is there for; that story will likely become a funny anecdote you tell friends instead of a source of frustration, unless things went too bad IRL (in which case you prob won't care that you lost that run)

For those who don't know after you try to pause mid fight with Chronos you learn an incantation. And after defeating chronos 3 times without pausing you can chant the incantation with his drops and stop mid fight worh chronos afterwards.

I love this. This harkens back to the first Metal Gear Solid where you fight Psycho Mantis and he reads your memory card and forces you to plug your controller into port 2 just to fight him.

yeah i really realize i pause the game a lot when I keep pausing during this fight and to itch but then being told no just for me to pause the game again 5 seconds later

Chronos is also unaffected by the tarot card that slows down time when channeling Omega moves or when using Hexes.

Love how time warp is fucking broken power in almost every game where it exist, and final boss is just "cool, this is some blank power slots you have, good for me" imagine if all time powers would work in reverse for him and speed him up 😅

I thought this was bug when I experienced it until seeing this video now. I was playing with no volume while on a work call that I didn't think I would be active on. Sure enough my name gets brought up right as I start my Kronos encounter and I just had to accept death because I couldn't pause.
