Leno has a matching coal truck. I had a friend George, who worked for NJ BELL. He told me he walked across NJ behind a real truck like that one, using the poles to lift new telephone cables up, and onto the poles, then they turned around and wired them all into houses on the way back. Post WWII, just out of the Navy, and making 37 cents an hour!! He retired, 9 sons, and DiLs, a great wife, and the nicest guy you'ld ever meet.

For nearly 30 years I was married to a woman whose father was one of 14 siblings that grew up in Western Maine. While together we made many trips out to New England to visit with her family. This video of you and Todd reminds me of the many times I got to spend visiting with her uncles still located in Maine. It was always a good time and their knowledge about all things mechanical was beyond impressive. I got to experience a number of local events like the Fryberg Fair (with some impressive vintage tractor pulls), local hot rod shows, and a classic car & tractor show to benefit the restoration of a water-powered mill that had been damaged by fire. Thanks for this video and the great memories it brought back for me.

People don't realise that Brass actually has a better coefficient of thermal efficiency than Aluminium, yes the Brass might weigh heaps more - but it also cools better. People should be actually sizing up when going to Aluminium, but I often see them use smaller units than standard and it's often not a surprise when they overheat..

I've watched 99% of Barn Find Hunter episodes, and this one has to be one of, if not the best and most interesting episodes yet. You're right Tom, in saying that Todd is "one of the most fascinating people on the series", his tone of voice is a bit gruff, but he's a good guy who's unable to hide his enthusiasm when he talks about his collection. I could watch another hour or so of this guy (hint hint)

I meet an elderly gentleman (99 years old), many years ago, that lived in NYC when younger. Amazing memory of the building of the Brooklyn Bridge, vacationed in Cuba, and had many amazing stories. The old coal truck reminded me of one of his memories,, he had a business hauling coal then after the invention of refrigeration in the spring he removed the beds of the trucks replacing them with insulated box beds to haul ice and then back to coal beds for winter

On that telephone truck I noticed an electrical Kearney someone mounted on the front vent just below the windshield (should be made out of red brass) and is used to clamp two wires together (don't know why someone would put that there unless they wanted to "ground" the truck while working in "hot" conditions, and those 3 poles for settting a telephone (power) pole are called Pole Pikes. Very nice collection!!
