The Haibike FLYON ALLMTN 8.0 announced last year is just about to be released. I take it for a test ride on some of the finest trails in Italy. Was it worth the wait?
HAIBIKE sponsored the video and funded the trip to Italy. I have marked this as a Paid Partnership, Haibike had no influence over what was filmed or said about the bike.
Haibike FLYON ALLMTN 8.0 Stats:
- Price £6199
- Travel 150F 150R
- Wheels 29 Front 27.5 Rear
- Motor TQ120 rated at 120Nm torque
- Battery 630Wh
One thing I forgot to mention was the 10 Amp charger. It charges the bike CRAZY fast, around an hour too full. That made such a difference to the riding experience. The EXTREME mode uses the battery quick! So it's great to be able to charge the bike back up in such a rapid time.

Having the most powerful motor, I'm disappointed that pretty much the whole video is about rolling down a trail / descent. You wouldn't have needed a motor for that at all. In a review about a bike with a motor like that the fokus should be on uphill sequences, also filmed in 3rd person / more far away in order to show how steep / fast the motor actually can climb. And I would have liked to hear the noise the motor produces in this case.

Yet another quality video Rob. I have a 2019 xduro allmtn 6.0, it's fitted with the econnect module but i didn't receive the key fob to pair it. And after contacting everyone, and finally Haibike, it's still a none runner. Haibike don't seem interested, i have had alot of trouble and wouldn't recommend Haibike to anyone wanting good customer service.

Great review as always Rob and thanks for sharing!! We just got a Haibike dealer here and very sadly that will keep me from buying one. It's not the bike that's the problem but these guys do not know anything about them or how to set them up let alone repair them. I wish Haibike would have checked into them before taking them on as a dealer because they are more about just trying to go with a fad and make a ton of money from unsuspecting and unknowledgeable people. I like the bikes but I made a fool out of the sales people with the simplest of questions which is very very sad!!!
@denesk2794
@denesk2794 4 жыл бұрын
There is no "repair". They connect the diagnostic tool and if there is a problem with the display, the battery or the motor, they ship it back. Literally it is simple connectors and screws. The question is if they have parts. The local dealer is unable to get me the pivot kit, spacers, hangers or ANYTHING. For that alone I want to swap brands, though I doubt anyone else here would be better. In other words: if you are technically enabled you can still get the bike. If you can take a bicycle to tiny pieces and put it back together or if you can build one from scratch, then an e-bike like this is not different. Just get it, set it up, and only deal with them if you have a motor/battery/display problem. The rest can be handled by you or any shop. I haven't taken my 30-40+ bikes to a shop ever since a mechanic tried to pry a brake open with a tool instead of using the hand release in 1988 or so.

@bbarker5766 4 жыл бұрын
@@denesk2794 you don't understand dude. It's not about me being able to work on my bike. I am very capable of doing that it's the fact that having dealt with the owner of the "stores" in the past and that he does not care about the customer just their money. When you into a shop and they don't even know how the bike works or what sizes should fit the person they're trying to sale it to should tell you to stay away.

@@bbarker5766 yep i get it. For me part support matters. I never agree on sizing and wheel/crank/gearing preference with anyone. 6'3 and would buy an M frame.... I finally got mine Allmtn- actually 10.0 - but while adjusting the handle bar and all the stuff on the left side- break /seat release and the controller - the controller cable snapped !!!- just turned a bit, the short cable going in the handle bar and then through the handlebar to the FLYON Unit was too short !! Now at 0 km used - the bike is not operational- waiting for reply when I get a replacement. Living in Germany - I hope it won't be long - but can't understand the design logic of having such cabling?? be careful! - curious to hear if anyone else had issues with controller cable?

Power is great and all but I suspect you'll be going through chains and sprockets at a record pace. We'll be needing some beefed up chains and cassettes in the future, and preferably not the +300 Euro cassette of the Sram EX1. Even better, someone should make an internal gear case or rohloff style rearhub for eMTB's.

Good review, I’ve got one, it’s a great bike, but range is poor. My Yamaha equipped bike will get way more range even using higher settings, which means you are using treacle mode aka eco and low a lot, which then defeats having the extra power. As a Flyon owner I say that this is a great bike, Much more powerful then everything else on the market... I kinda like the extra weight. To be fair tho Bosch motor is little more punchy but less powerful, it takes couple extra milliseconds for Flyon to kick in but once it does it's a whole another story... This motor is quite thirsty tho (Edit: Never Buy the 500$ light(skybeamer), everything upwards of 100 $ will do much better job, trust me!)

Now we face the choice, get a lighter e-bike with a smaller engine and less torque. Or go for a heavy duty superstrong bike. It´s starting to get tricky to choose. I have done some 70 + kilometer rides with a spare battery in my backpack. At some tricky sections I´ve had to carry the bike. I, personally, would lova a bike to bet at close to 20 Kg, that is my pesonal sweetspot. This flyon is not for me.

LOL... cable noise. I have a 2017 Nduro 8.0 and apparently the engineers didn't figure anything out about the cable noise. :) Luckily I only hear it now on videos (mine or others') and don't notice it while riding, unless I use my other (carbon non-e-bike) bike that is dead silent. Unfortunately they are not bringing this model to where I live now so my next bike has to be something else. Sad when you have the money for something but cannot buy it because of some region-nonsense. Seems like they will only bring Yamaha Haibikes and I have no interest in that. BTW, I am thinking of a less powerful motor, more "climb oriented" gearing, but a much lighter bike. Something like the Pivot with the 75Nm shimano and a 35 front with the 12 speed 10-51 XTR cassette.

If the motor is weighing just 4 kg, why is this bike 5 kg heavier than an average endure emtb? The carbon frame doesn't seem to counterbalance the heavy engine. 28 kg is too heavy! It's not just all about going up without any effort isn't it? You have to carry it over a log or you have to go upstairs etc. Every kilo counts. Greetings from Germany

If you go down all the time, then the motor is unnecessary.)))

If I ever owned a haibike I wouldn’t cry if I fell down and crashed but I’m pretty sure my bank account would.

Why not compare Flyon to Brose, Bosch, Shimano, etc ? This vid is full of fanboy how-wonderful-it-is comments. Analysis, please.

Definitely not a looker, I just don't appreciate Haibike, to me they have a "Blue Peter" look about them, and the only thing people seem to talk about is the motor, Brose is still the benchmark for me and its integrated into the benchmark bike, the Levo, for now, but every brand seems to be playing catch up regarding innovation and sales.

@@RobRidesEMTB TRUE. No matter the cost of the bike, It's gonna be using a widely available brand of brakes and all brakes can be noisy
