With the color shift using color checker especially when not saturated by bright sunlight yourself the color shift can certainly be a thing. With my Batman movie I did a color check about every 3 hours or before each shoot

Nice camera and lens. I use that same camera but always use my XF prime lenses. I didn't notice any issues with my 18-55mm lens but I did want to test both lenses since one seems more dark corners than the other and my original filter doesn't seem very effective but this new one is very noticeable. Consistency seems to be an issue.

I found the Freewell image wise more consistent. The end of the video technically tells you everything in the pros and cons but so does one obvious statement I make. Color shift. I also believe but can not personal hard confirm due to 82mm vs 67mm filters on a 58mm lens is not exactly a fair comparison (if you saw the Freewell video). Freewell at least appears to have less vignette and looking at user experience it seems Freewell may have more consistent quality from one sample to the next. However we still must consider the proa and cons for what works for you AND that I end with I wouldn't recommend a VND for photography but a regular ND. I ultimately want the decision to be yours but photography is generally, I believe considered more of an art of perfection of color and even lightning. More often vignettes are used more purposely artistically *in video*. AND in photography it is far more likely you are maxing that VND to give that milky water look and best photo contrast is found in sunny environments to capture the depths of shadow detail.

I posted the batman movie... I fixed everything using my white balance checker. Skin tones looked a little too white syill vut fixed in post edit. My other sample didn't have issues in my movie recording. BUT all VNDs appear to have some X pattern.nuse an ND without the "V" ND and no X pattern

I almost bought the NISI but the cost wasn't worth while to me... The CPL is Wonderful during the day, it allows increased contrast you can not get with an ND filter alone.

I just ordered a K&F Concept True Color Variable ND CPL Filter, ND2-ND32 Polarizing 2 in 1 Lens Filter to review and can compare to the Haida... I work at a Camp building a power generation plan for 2 weeks at a time with 1 week off. Should hopefully have it posted by early May.

Freewell locks into place. This one doesn't and can shift the CPL slightly as I was showing with the movement of that red ring. Hope that answers if for you. Freewell locks in and for me not convenient, I didn't bother even using it during my quick test before returning it.

When I post my K&F review next week you'll have a 3rd one on your mind. At the end of this video I list the pros and the cons of each one. This video and the link to the freewell and the issues I found about it should make clear which is best. BUT if you don't color correct, Freewell is simply more accurate. I made the movie I show in this video with the haida filter but I used a color checker. When I didn't color check, the color shift was BAD when it was closer to the sunset, especially in the shade.

That is going to depend on the filter thread of that lens. Most lenses have a filter thread diameter on them written on the outer edge. I am stuck at a work camp out of town and won't have computer access for another 5 days or I would look it up. I have no interest in budget cine lenses and never ever used a cine lens yet. I am however considering IRIX lenses someday. Do I need a cine lens to make movies? Nope but for multiple camera setups cine lenses are made to be matched in color and image characteristics with one another.

@@androidex6068 lenses have yes inside rings for thread on of filters it is the same with my other 3 lenses. If you are still confused I could possibly show an up close video for you on discord when i am finally back in the studio in about 5 more days if needed.

Sucks about your bad experience, it wasn't even close to garbage.. i even bought a second one. i had a 23mm lens which yeah a 16mm equivalent is way wider than 23mm. I do wonder if your issue was with a step up ring being so wide? I had no issues during the making of this video and a 33mm is my other lens. Way better experience for me than even the freewell V2 except for what I stated and at the end I list the good and bad right at the very end of this and the good and bad of the freewell V2

@@sparkestudio I tried it on a 16mm (10mm APS-C equiv) with no step up ring, utterly unusable, like 30% of the image is X pattern. So I tried with a less wide lens, the 24mm (16mm APS-C), it's a 55 to 77mm adapter so it's very close to the lens, there is still a serious vignette. It's better going to 35mm (23mm equiv) but still has a visible vignette. Really bad ND filter in my opinion :( Seems you are too getting a vignette on that 23mm, do you have any wider lenses to try with? -- it's possible I got a bad copy as it's really bad.

@@DigiDriftZone i did get some vignette as I show in the sky... I had to redo part of the video cause I at first used the larger lens hood. Sadly from my experience with a VND vignette is going to happen... More or less depending on the filter and if set at max over level 5. What VDN was a good experience for you? Cause I believe you'll have vignette with all VNDs to some extent which is why I also recommend not to use it for photography. In my Batman video I believe I mostly used my 33mm lens and it turned out beautifully. The preview is all there and I end this video with more footage and the full movie is released any day now about 16 minutes of the 26 minutes run time is with the VND on... Nighttime shooting required the removal.

@@DigiDriftZone if you don't want to use with filter with wide angle lenses it is good to know. In no point in this footage did I use the 33mm lens. APS-C for everyone reading this. Batman I believe was using the filter with a 33mm I believe all or nearly all times

@@sparkestudio Yes, it seems to work better with 33mm (around 50mm full frame equiv), anything wider it gets progressively worse. I bought a NISI true colour 82mm which I am using with step up adapters with all my lenses and the results are near enough flawless, it's such a huge step up and also it's very tactile to use, it's very precise and well dampened - but it's1-4 stops and then you add a 4 stop to convert it to a 5-9 stops. I got mine from ali expres at half the price it retails for.

My second copy I bought is even better than the first one, the first one is Reviewed in the video above. The disadvantage is mainly it is only 1 to 5 stops and not 3 to 7. The advantage is with only 1 stop it can be left on when the sun sets far more easily. VIR? Variable infrared? So far the only filters I have been using are VND + CPL and for my next down the line I it might be a bloom, mist or streak or combo pack. Right now have a lot of reviews that I am backed up on... I am only in the studio for 6 and a half days and for 14 days I work out of town at a construction site... My current camera is the Sony A7C II. I have a lens I reviewed but have been working on so many reviews that I purposely delayed the release of a lens review and a camera should mount review. Mid August when I get back watch for my camera slider review, another microphone review, an other tripod review... Literally sitting all new in boxes unopened....
