I can't believe none of the patreons told them that Hoshiumi was the one Ushiwaka was expecting Hinata to be during their rivalry pre season4. Coz Ushiwaka, having been to nationals multiple times meets a lot of springy talented small players like the little giant.

Y’all gotta realize, Hinata doesn’t get sh*tty when he sees someone that’s better than him. He uses that as motivation. He likes playing against good people bc that makes him better and he aims to beat them. He admires amazing players. He admired Ushijima despite how blunt he was about Hinatas lack of skill. Hinata is a good sport. Nothing gets him down except not being able to play volleyball and ofc losing the game bc he wants to stay on the court as long as possible. Hoshiumi's school is Kamomedai and Kamome means seagull, so it’s their mascot the same way we have crows for Karasuno, cats for Nekoma, eagles for Shiratorizawa and owls for Fukurodani. Other schools that have an animal motif but aren't drawn with character mascots are Nohebi (hebi means snake) and Itachiyama (itachi means weasel)

A good time to say that Hoshiumi is voiced by Tanjiro's VA (Natsuki Hanae), which means its the battle of 2 MCs in a way.

Fukurodani Academy is one of the most formidable teams in all of Japan. - They have a top 3 ace on a good day (but due to their recent losings during Bokuto's first tournament in his third year, he fell to top 5). - The entire starting lineup aside are third years in their 6th ever national tournament (Akaashi is in his fourth tournament) so they have tons of experience together. - They never lost a set to Karasuno and defeated Nekoma 2 - 0 in the Tokyo qualifiers. - They stole a set from the former champions in Itachiyama Academy, but ultimately fell short 2 - 1 and became the 2nd Tokyo representative.

Great comment from Marketa about Hinata's reaction to Hoshiumi's gameplay. Seeing Hoshiumi's incredible athleticism and skill despite being a short player in a sport that prizes physical stature & power suddenly opens the door to a completely new set of possibilities. Just imagine going through life having fight a constant uphill battle because of something you can't control (like height) and seeing another person so boldly and powerfully able to overcome these limits and play at the highest level. Hinata knows that something like this can only be seen in the setting of a national or international tournament, and is profoundly grateful for making it this far after realizing that he has far more potential that has yet to be tapped into. The knowledge that he has more growth in front of him + having a tangible example of the end result of this growth (i.e. Hoshiumi) is bound to spark a massive change in Hinata, one that may truly transform him into an absolute monster of an athlete.
