I remember watching every game as well. I grew up as a kid n Lawton, Oklahoma. That was the southwestern part of Oklahoma. I got 2C all the Dallas Cowboys games played on tv. Drew Pearson was my all time favorite receiver. I use call him tiptoe man, how he catch a pass from Rodger Staubach & then steps out of bounds. When we played sandlot football, I will called myself Drew Pearson. I was a receiver n my sophomore & junior varsity days of high school. I really wanted 2B like him n my youth yrs. He needs 2B n the HOF b/c it's way pass do.

Drew Pearson is the only member of the 1970's All Decade Offensive First Team, who is not in the Hall of Fame. Totally ridiculous. By the way, Cliff Harris is the only Defensive First Team player, not in the HOF. Starting to see a pattern here.

JEFF O look up super bowl stats then think again. Not saying drew should not be in. But Swann and Stallworth were probably two of the greatest clutch WRs in the post season ever. That’s what tipped the scales for them over Pearson and Branch.

The problem is the Hall - for all 4 major sports leagues should be your peers voting ONLY. Sports writers who never laced them up & still petty about you turning down their interview request back in 84- should not be no where near voting for something as important as this. When a Peter King type can appear on tv to justify the 20+ years of a Lynn Swann not getting in by comparing his numbers in a Chuck Noll Run-first offense/defensive bump & run down the field era to a league passing rules change era of Jerry Rice- that in itself shows the idiots being allowed to vote.

MRnewkTrane i agree sports writers should be only part of the vote. Players in the Hall should get to vote. Maybe the other 1/3 is former coaches. So 2/3 of the vote are from guys that were in the NFL.

I know this reply comes a little bit after the fact, but i just saw it and wanted to say how right Double Star is about that game against SF. The game was known for "the catch" made by Dwight Clark, but Drew Pearson almost changed that. Man, Dallas was so good that year. Best offense in the league, hands down. It was a truly balanced attack. Dallas was 8-0 at home that year too (for the second straight year). For me, that 1981 team was the best Cowboy team ever that didn't win a Super Bowl. NFL Films should have done a "Missing Rings" show about them. That's how good they were. Why do I bring this up here? Because I'm sure Drew would have been in the HOF on the first ballot if only Dallas hadn't lost that game against the 49ers. Because of a sack fumble, Dallas never got a chance to finish their last drive. It was a drive that began by Pearson catching a 31 yard bomb from Danny White; it was a huge play and it was when Dallas needed it the most, and as usual, 88 came through for them.

Harvey martin was my hero as a little kid and Cowboys fan, I loved to watch him crush Jaworski and Pisarcik. 23 sacks in 14 games in '77, they even mentioned that then unofficial stat line in that years super Bowl.
