I mentioned this on another video, in the book, Hailan was raped by and then forced to marry the Emperor. This is why she is uncomfortable around him. She would give a prayer over a curse regarding not being of service to him. Also, "bring more braziers" with what supposed missing charcoal are they filled with. Edit: I love the look on the face of the Empress when the Emperor asks the maid be brought. She knows exactly what is what. Very good acting.

she wasnt raped. he was drunk and passed out in her bed. by law they had slept together and she was at that point a concubine. the others look down on her because she had never had sex with the emperor. if she HAD she would have moved up the ranks
