@@makeupunlimitedIKR? I'm a child of the 70's and 80's. There truly is "nothing new under the sun". Except maybe the glowing nose look a few years back. I recall the "cut-crease" eyeshadow trend that was touted as "new". We were doing that in about '87, maybe earlier. 😊

I'm happy that these micro-trends focus on a look and not around specific products. It's so fun to use things I already have to try new things. Like you said, these aren't groundbreaking looks, but it's a nice excuse to try something in a fresh way. Love your tip about the cream blush! :)

At 71 I have developed a new found love of makeup, I can not get enough, which can cost an awful lot of money! It is so much fun! Watching different influencers do their take on these trends has given me many new and good ideas for applying my makeup. I am not as interested in following a trend as I am about learning the best way to apply my makeup to enhance my look without looking like I have gone overboard:) Thank you for what you do and the way you teach in your tutorials is wonderful!!

What I find interesting (as a history buff in general) is WHY the trends are changing so quickly. I imagine it is partially due to the fact that people are inventing content every single day, and there is a non-stop race to have the next new idea. Social origins discussions are fascinating, don't you think? ❣️

As a historian myself I love when you go into the history of beauty and makeup. This look reminds me so much of the looks we wore in the mid 90's. Brown eyeshadow and brownish lipstick was THE look when I was in high school. So it's always interesting how the trends always make their way back around again. Especially interesting when you think to of how trends coincide, like Birkenstocks are now back in style and we wore those in the 90s as well.

It’s trending but also classic. I love what you said about making it your own. As a hair and makeup artist, I sometimes find certain trends like lash extensions and “the butterfly cut” to be just buzz words for something that does not suit everyone. Because it’s so big on social, people tend to think they MUST have or do that trend. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should!❤😊

I think what's fascinating about the shortening of trends, is that I see it coinciding with the shortening of attention spans. We now live in an era of rapid technology creation and we as humans have been trained to be looking for the "newest" and "latest and greatest" at all times. Once something new comes, the old is out and forgotten - unless someone reinvents it or brings it back. I think it's cool that we have access to so many ideas today, but I also appreciate the simplicity and ingenuity of people in the past who had to get so creative with so little and yet still impact so much of what we do today! Love the look Lisa! Gorgeous as always! Also, Viseart's Petit Four quad in "Praline" is the perfect palette for the latte eye! :)

I started watching Lisa's videos three years ago and now they're a permanent fixture of my KZfaq lineup. I used to have a lot of animosity towards the beauty industry, but she's softened my impression of how and why we use makeup - more as a mode of self expression and less of a way to cover ourselves up. Little things that she does have become a part of my own routine, from skin massage to finishing my morning makeup by saying "and that's the finished look!" Thanks for being such a positive force in the industry, Lisa!

Dear Lisa, what an impeccable version of this 'latte trend' you created. You look so effortlessly classy, chic and elegant. 😍 As an 80's baby/milennial, I grew up seeing this trend and started rocking this mocha-neutral-brown make-up during my teenage years, during the last 90's -early 2000's era and never stopped. This became one of my go-to-look. Truly one of these timeless classic that can truly suit everyone imo.

Hi Lisa! My own two cents on trends are that they're self defeating. At the point at which 'everyone is doing it' they're no longer new, subversive or cool by virtue of being niche. And whereas two hundred years ago it took much longer for trends to spread ( I think of Mrs Bennett in Pride and Prejudice being delighted at her friend's news of long sleeves becoming fashionable!), With the growth of media across the twentieth century and now the digital age, trends simply reach their peak and inevitable decline more quickly. I'm writing a book about Victorian hair jewellery (which had sub trends for snake bracelets, acorn earrings and all sorts) so I've been thinking about this a lot 😂

I too love a trend, however in the form of art. I thoroughly believe in inspiration and we're living in a wheel of art that continues to turn bringing back older favourites with a twist. I work as a counsellor and can also see the potential damage of trends and how they can add a form of anxiety to keep up and in this era we're seeing trends like you said come and go so quickly. So all in all yes, trends are good from an artistic point of view but don't forget the importance and celebration of individuality and uniqueness.

I too purchased face paint. I have always loved makeup and started getting into trends in the late 60s as a young teenager. Always had Glamour magazine and couldn’t wait to get every month. I’m 69 now and stay current with KZfaq videos. I certainly don’t follow every trend, but I stay current and my 3 granddaughters see me as their skin care and makeup family guru. I’m fascinated by history of make up and trends and would love to find additional resources for learning. Mainly 20th century, Max Factor, Helena Rubenstein, Coty, all of it. I loved the video you did using the old recording of how to apply makeup and how far women have evolved in modern culture.

I love this look on you and also love that you took a trend and made it the most flattering to your specific coloring. I feel like what is flattering has gone out the window with the everybody can wear or do anything era. Sure, everyone has the inherent right to wear something that isn‘t the most flattering if that is their choice and they feel good, but it’s silly to pretend everyone looks good in everything. It’s very smart to know what flatters your skin and body type, IMO. I don’t know why we expect every line and every product to serve every person out there. There are plenty of things that aren’t for me out there and that is just fine.

19:04 as a content marketing strategist, I’m overwhelmed by all these trends. There’s a huge mental health burden to carry by having to keep up with them. As a makeup enthusiast, they make me smile a little, because I find them to be a remarket of makeup styles I’ve been wearing for the past 15 years. I mean…a caramel makeup look, a brown smokey eye, a fresh pink complexion look… they’re just being cheeky and putting other labels on them like latte, espresso, matcha, strawberry makeup…

As soon as you use some drugstore makeup, they look like high end. This is a very beautiful latte makeup look. This trend makes me think of the 90’s, yes, but also, we use more and more bronzers and highlighters now, which color wise are basically café latté, so this trend comes, according to me, naturally from what we are using right now, some nude, sun kissed look with some highlighter for the milk part. I don’t know what to think about the tomato and strawberry trends, it is fun, probably because we went too much in the sun, we burnt a little and here is the result after the latte look 😂. In winter, we will go back to the cold cheeks look 😊

It’s fun to rediscover old trends in a new way and adapt them to modern formulas (and my own changing appearance). She pointed out that all of these trendy renaming videos are actually more like old school tutorials where - 1- they arent pushing all new products- just describing types of products that can actually help you shop your stash and get creative to use what you have 2- they are going over techniques that can teach you something or give you a new perspective on an existing look - ie: “brown eyeshadow” and “red blush” Thank you for your take on it as well! 🧡👍🧡👍

I love how you share so many tips and tricks to adapt it to everyone (the blush idea definitely will help me). I also very much appreciate that it's drugstore based. Regarding trends, I really like the creativity behind them, but I am worried that they become an excuse for hyper consumerism. Obviously make up artists and content creators have a great variety of products so they can explain and show all different kinds of textures, finishes, products at different price points, etc. And I have no issue with that. But I don't think the average consumer should purchase new products for every trend, because most (wearable) trends are often iterations of the same themes and we can often use products we already have. I hope people watch the trend videos more for inspiration & fun, but purchase fewer and better products (more sustainable, multifunctional, etc.)

Your advice on adapting a trend to suite yourself, made me think that trends come and go in such rapid succession nowadays. It doesn’t allow people time to play around with the trend and adapt it to their personal style. This can lead to a lack of variation in how the trend is presented in society and media. Which means new makeup users (professional and personal) may be more concerned with replicating images, rather than enjoying makeup as a creative outlet.

The thing I love about all these trends is how it gives everyone a lot of room to explore and have fun with their make up. The thing that kind of worries me, similar to quick trends in clothing is it can encourage people to not really consider the things they purchase and perhaps over-consume. I am quite a fan of finding ways to tryer newer trends with the stuff I have laying around though :)

I think it’s very interesting your point of view that real trends nowadays are based on technology. I am not too sure I get you. When it comes to products, do you mean certain ingredients? My opinion on such fast expiring “trends” is that it is very liberating in a way. It is so hard to keep up with them, that I guess you never look dated, as it used to be a decade or 20 years ago. This makeup look you created looks amazing on you. As always, it is so sophisticated ❤

Again you show real integrity because I cannot imagine any other mua/ brand owner doing a video like this. The way in which you talk about the products is also refreshing. Please keep doing what you are doing because I am living for it. With love xxx😘

I love the latte look. My 3 absolute fav products for this look: 1. Almay healthy hue blush in nearly nude... which is this gorgeous luminous brown blush. 2. Almay lip vibes lipstick in Call Out... which is a lovely rosy brown cream lipstick 3. NXY Fat Oil Lip Drip in Status Update... on medium skin this is a beautiful brown nude Almay does not get a lot of love, but I like how their packaging uses less plastic, and genuinely love these two products! That blush is perfect for fall, and it's so dense, it will last you forever.

I always take from trends what works for me but a lot of them are too gimmicky and wouldn’t even realistically work except for the social media show. I love the way you did it ❤️ as always such a positive input on a topic. Xoxo

I really wasn't keen on the latte look initially...too many memories of the 90s and looking like I was in a Ken Russell movie. However, this is beautiful...I guess the new formulations and range of products has made the look far more elegant (& Lisa's glorious style obviously!). I agree that trends are far more technology and formulation lead which is fantastic. I love that there are so many different 'faces' you can try now...lots of scope to have fun, try new things & keep your makeup fresh instead of ending up wearing the same look forever. I'm in my early 50s & enjoying trying new make-up more than ever!❤

Loved this look, Lisa! As you said, knowledge in makeup has progressed so much that a lot of looks can find their inspiration in history. But in terms of what we wear on a day-to-day basis, I think that it'll still be low maintenance and easy to put on - regardless of trends. This is mainly in part due to our ever increasingly hectic lifestyles. Classic styles will never go out of fashion simply because they are tried and true ways to enhance our facial features while giving us room to adapt. I think it will be interesting to witness truly innovative styles in the future. We've done anti-pretty, glam, anti-glam, hyperreal shine etc. I would even venture to say that the time of the pandemic was a "style" in itself when we didn't expect the same level of grooming when we met our colleagues. However, I hope that we will be celebrating our diversity of beauty rather than converging on a singular look. Unfortunately, it seems like years and years of exalting similar types of beauty, combined with the advancement of plastic surgery and AI, seem to be leading us on the path of convergent beauty.

I think you’re spot on right about trends and find it really interesting how quickly everything rolls over and doesn’t seem to last these days.. because of technology, we are living in such a fast paced, temporary wave of things- where not enough is cherished & or permanent.. It’s ok to change things up, but sometimes I do wish some things would slow down a bit more. It can remove the joy of makeup, because of the ever pressing rush, to be “on to the next new thing” hope that all made sense🤷🏻‍♀️ and I love history so to combine that with makeup is just the cherry on top! ❤ thanks Lisa- I love the latte look and it’s my typical go-to, on the daily❤

I also think it's interesting about the trends. Thinking about it, back in the Egyptian or medieval eras communities were a lot more insular. As a rule people didn't really leave the places they were from so new ideas weren't readily being introduced. Now we have the whole world at the touch of our fingers and we can be introduced to ideas in an instant. I think especially with the nature of Tiktok and its user demographic a lot of it is about who can come up with the latest 'viral' video, get the most comments, subscribers etc., so they are constantly having to come up with these new 'trends' to compete with the others.

I am clueless about make up: When I try to paint my self, even a demure black eyeliner, i look like a racoon But I follow you religiously: still not watched the video, put the like to remind myself what to watch when I'll get home, still some kilometers. I am in awe because of your masterful, trasformative, yet gentle and precise attention to the material: face and espression. Make up is truly the art of painting, but on a human face. Art always adapts to trends: like a glorious chef, trasforming raw materials in ideas. Sometimes ideas are more widespread, but the artistry underpins them. Is there a moment in make up history you really wished to live in? I Guess the twenties for their wild freedom, also in the development of products.. but I'd love to know from you!

I love your take on trends and suggestions on how to adapt them to suit us personally. I love the latte trend! I feel like there is quite a lot of monochromatic trends going around atm. The ‘strawberry girl’, oh and the latest one so have seen is the ‘tomato girl makeup’. I think it is taking a style of makeup and just separating it into different categories for every colour chosen if that makes sense 😅🫣 But it’s all fun and entertainment! 🥰

I consider fast trends a search. The objective depends on every person. Some look for fun, fame, some for money, some their own ideal make up. If someone goes after every trend... I think he/she spends too much time in front of screens. In my humble opinion. It's always a pleasure to watch Lisa working.

You elevate makeup and I think this sums everything up. Ms. Lisa Eldridge: I love your elegance, your knowledge about the History of makeup and its techniques. Some people are just sellers and come across as quite well...cheap underneath all the show they put on. For me, you really embody the spirit of elegance and perfection in all you work. Thank you so much! (ps. bought and loved you book, pleaaaaaaaaase make more!!) best regards from Portugal

As usual, you look beautiful and can pull off any look. I will be 70 in two weeks. I've certainly seen a lot of trends come and go in my lifetime. I am sure I'm influenced by them, but I've always done my take on trends. I do what looks good on me and don't overdo it. I can't afford to change my whole look on the whims of the fashion industry so I make subtle changes of one or two things that may be on trend. I have blue eyes and find I like the look of more neutral tans and browns in my eye make up and have been using them for years. However, as I've aged and my hair and brows have gotten grayer, lighter and sparser, I find I like a little more color on my cheeks and lips to liven things up a bit. I also go a little deeper with the color on my eyelids. I like to enhance what I already have.

I feel like I need to try this. For most of my life this brown based was the look, minus the lips, but once I dived into color I don’t know how to go back. I’m 58 yrs old and my latest purchase on eyeshadows are pure bright colors. Not even my incursion on this colored make-up looks works: neutral eyes with a pop of color on my mobile lids or under eyes, nope, not even as transition shades . I have some old palettes and I’m diving into this look this weekend to see, well I don’t know what I need to see, maybe to go with the trends, not that I ever do. I’ve learned that make up is personal and that I wear what I want when I want regardless of trends or age barriers.

I always love to hear your thoughts on trends dear Lisa ❤ I get annoyed with the super fast cycle and the new click bait-y names of things that have always existed… but at the same time I agree with you that it is a fascinating moment to witness in the beauty industry. Something that we will look back on with fascination in the future. And who knows what is yet to come!

I love the play factor of the quick trends. I don’t love it when it’s attached to over spending/buying loads of new things to get into the trend. But I do love that makeup is more playful and that makeup users are moving away from the old ‘rules’ about how to flatter your features or beautify yourself more according to a western, white standard. Trends are so fun and I pick up a new technique from a trend here and there 😊 beautiful look. Lisa, as always ❤
