WELCOME to my 13th flight in 2019! On 18th April, I was invited to fly on Hainan Airlines HU7975 service from Beijing to Toronto, the aircraft was operated by a B787-9 with the Kung Fu Panda livery. This special aircraft is equipped with old business class in a 2-2-2 configuration. I was assigned to seat 17A.

Thanks for such an in-depth report Jayden. It really enables the viewer to get the feeling of coming along on the flight with you. Hainan gets such positive feedback. Of all the reviews I`ve read I have seen only one negative comment from an economy cabin report which described the cabin crew as disinterested. Nice review here. I'm old enough to remember when seats like this were introduced, and thinking they were practically thrones. In those days, a 180 degree seat recline was considered super luxurious. Same configuration, but with lie-flat. I think it's more social, but also prefer pods.

Thought I would watch one of your earlier videos Jayden. I enjoyed it so much. A really great Airline. You look so cute in your Hainan pjs. You do such a wonderful job. Your verbal commentary really adds to the personality of your videos. Love how you pronounce Peking Duck. 😉😊 I was privileged to fly in the cockpit many many years ago during take off and will never forget that experience. I watched the pilots navigate through a storm which came out of nowhere. Thanks again Jayden.

I love having warm nuts !! 2 x 2 puts me off a bit but the NEW Business Class looks terrific! I thought it was interesting the Chef taking orders during the safety demonstration when all passengers are supposed to be paying attention ?? No Peking duck on the menu ?? Great take off vision and sound Jayden !! Lucky you had the row to yourself!! What a great flight and review Jayden...almost as good as First class on some airlines....very enjoyable and I look forward to your next flight !!

I only saw the ratings of airlines three days ago and was very surprised to see hainan airlines as the no.1 airline in China. But after seeing this video it does make sense. Would love to fly with them one day but doubt I will since I’m not from hainan.

Great review, Jayden! It looks like Hainan has a great product. Too bad you weren't able to experience the new business class product on this long route, but the soft product looks excellent. I was really surprised to see the plastic cutlery in the lounge. It really cheapens what otherwise looks like a nice experience. I wonder what the logic for that is.

Thank you Mike! I know right! I’m sure a cheap restaurant would use metal cutlery too. Airlines use plastic cutlery in the air to reduce weight but they don’t need to do that in the lounge haha

I do like the extra information you provide. Such as the dishes and design name and meaning. Also you seem to be honest and do not hide the flaws (dirty silverware and the hard bread). While my recent flights on Hainan Airlines in Business Class were faultless onboard, the overnight accommodation provided at Shenzhen Airport was very subpar. Barely a Chinese 3 Star business hotel but worst of all was the incredibly long wait at Shenzhen Airport for the hotel shuttle, jostling with the crowds catching their Didi rides, nearly 45 minutes in the stifling heat of the carpark. In stark contrast to the limo service I received on arrival at my final destination of Chongqing with a Mercedes E-class waiting upon arrival, more befitting for business class.

I also waited for quite a long time at Beijing with the hotel van, but a Hainan Airlines arrival lounge was provided. So nice that you got a Mercedes E-class at the end of your trip! I was not eligible for the pickup service haha. Thanks for watching :D

Hi Jayden, thx for the review. HNX biz lounge looks gorgeous and well furnished. Now about the aircraft cabin, red color deco looks a little bit « aggressive » and I’ve rather preferred some other colors like lite blue or rose or purple... About the cabin crew now, well few smiles in FAs’ faces, I figure out they were intimidated by the cam and uncomfortable with it.

I agree mate, there’s too much red. They new one with some gold is heaps better for the eyes. Yeah some of the crew are camera shy. But they were nice, where I had a conversation with the chef, she told me to use photoshop for her shots 😂 Thanks mate!

I will be flying with China Southern to Beijing this October. Do you think Terminal 2 of PEK is overcrowded for international? And do you hear any pre-recorded announcements after the safety video from the "security team leader" which is available on most Chinese carriers?

I’m a rare breed in that I like 2-2-2 config. It’s much more airy than 1-2-1 generally. 1-2-1 can often be claustrophobic too.

Ran Diggerly, the real issue is not having direct aisle access with most 2-2-2 configurations. However, Gulf Air, for example, has direct aisle access and privacy in its J class, so if other carriers who insist with maximizing their profits follow suit, it wouldn't be so bad.

I know what you mean. Some of those herringbone layouts make the cabin feel cluttered. The 2-2-2 gives it a more open feel, even if you don't get as much privacy.

Bread that is hard is no excuse for business class and the seats look kind of old fashioned and screen kind of small for business class...and I find the cutlery kind of "cheap" but I do agree with you good service and lovely Asian touch overall!

Hainan's uniform is so beautiful. Truly they're the best airline in China. They seem to be really service oriented that's why they deserve a great rating. Thanks for sharing this Jayden.

plenty of room in this business class seat. the meals looked delish and well presented. shame about the dirty cutlery. the bathroom looked nice and clean... usually a place i try and avoid if i can as usually dirty and wet floors. thank you once again for an awesome report

Absolutely love the colour scheme and style if the soft furnishings, the hard product is dated but it's still a very stylish look. The cabin crew are very attentive and pro active, top marks for the service! Ok the cutlery let them down but really l certainly wouldn't be upset just point it out and they would replace it with much apologies. The bread basket on the other hand how the heck do you stuff up bread 🤷‍♀️. I've had one of those on board Chefs l think it was on Garuda (but don't hold me to it that it was Garuda as it's been a minute since lve flown International) l thought it was a gimmick to be honest and wasn't overly impressed however my Miss Teen thought it was brilliant and ordered a perfectly cooked steak that was 5 star restaurant quality. Overall ld happily do a long haul on Hainan Airlines 👍

Yess I love Hainan’s crew uniform the most. So elegant! Maybe you were on Turkish, they’re known for having chefs in business class :) Hopefully your teen paired it with a nice glass of red😋

Yeah those seats are the previous generation seats. It was unfortunate that he got that, because 2-3 years ago there was a newer business class which looks so much better. This year there’s a new business class released again but not on this route

Please bring back the old spacious business class 2-2-2 configuations. Frequent business class flyers love them. The new business class harringbone configuation is very clusterphobic by comparison.

I have seen only positive reviews about Hainan Airlines. They are obviously the only mainland Chinese airline worth considering. Can't wait until they have 1-2-1 Business Class seating configuration. I refuse to fly 2-2-2 configuration because of lack of privacy and the inconvenience of stepping over your neighbor's legs or vice versa. Jayden, I always try to choose the native menu of the airline as I think it will be better than the Western selection. Do you do that also?

There 1-2-1 seats are really good. They also have a different 1-2-1 config on A350 and A330 flying long haul already :) I used to pick only dishes I familiar with but now I always pick my native food, so chef Dong’s food on this flight, and I did not regret at all, the dish that looked like WIFI was so good😋 It won’t take long til they put it on all of their 787! I believe that's a misleading rumour. 'Consulting' means getting advice and feedback on how to improve things. In Airlines, it means learning what the customers really want. Just look at reviews on Skytrax, or even TripAdvisor and other sites, people really think Hainan is a good airline. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend Zaid!

Great video but have to say I’m astonished they use plastic cutlery in the lounge , someone’s head should role for that massive error as not only should it be real cutlery but with all the plastic issues today you would think a 5 star Airline would no better , rant over and great work as always 👍
