Yeah if I could time travel to the 80s and skate for a week and then come back that would be rad. I hear you though reminds me of early skating. But skating is way better nowadays you should see the grindline parks we have in the Seattle areas. I actually still skate and listen to 80s punk, it really takes me back.

16 years old making it to the finals of Battle of the Bands and knowing that there's no chance of winning, me and my shitty little punk band decided implosion was the best course of action and proceeded to open our set with the Samoans Homosexual (covering songs were against the rules) and dedicating it to everyone there voting for the other bands. I'm still told to this day that 45 minute set inspired so many kids to not give a fuck and form their own bands. Even though we lost the, owner of the venue liked us so much he gave us some of the prize money anyway and said from now on we could play there whenever we liked. We found out later that the owner was Frank Voodoo, singer of The Voodoo Glow Skulls.

Dear Angry Samoans. I have loved your music ever since I first heard it on New Wave Theatre on Night Flight, probably in ~ 82. I still crave that raw energy that you guys seemed to capture. I love the old stuff, the new stuff, and if you ever care to do any more, I'd listen to it now. Back then you helped me to laugh at myself and rock the f@@k out at the same time, you still do. I guess deep down I'm just a little bit missing being a punk rocker in a beer-covered lounge lunging my ungainly body around a slippery dance floor and probably smoking, and I remember you guys.

I'M KICKIN' IT HARD OUT OF THE GATE THIS SUNDAY MORNING, JULY 2 WITH ONE OF THE BEST PUNK/HARDCORE ALBUMS EVER!! in 1980 a friend told me there was a punk band from L.A. with the name Angry Samoans. I had a good laugh. Clever punks, I thought. Little did I realize then this is one of the very greatest American bands of the early '80's. They debuted with Inside My Brain ep (1980) but my first exposure to the group came with the songs Lights Out and Steak Knife on a 7" flexi given away free with Take It magazine. I remember thinking WTF is this? A one minute song? But holy smoke, what an attack! (I've since learned from Metal Mike (singer/guitarist in the band) that Angry Samoans, along with Black Flag, Red Cross and The Crowd were the first ever bands in the fall of 1979, to play extremely short songs and short sets.) This threw me for a loop back then but history has shown these bands to be real trailblazers in music and this style of playing has been a staple in hardcore for many years. The musicianship on Back From Samoa is beyond reproach. I just played the vinyl first pressing on Bad Trip label and let me tell you, on a good playback system, this album will stun you. It's very well recorded and MY GOD, WHAT A SOUND. This is a five piece band with two, sometimes three guitars with a compact yet extremely vibrant, energetic, shattering sound. Their tremendous attack has rarely been equaled in American punk. This album may have been overlooked by punk lovers due to an unfortunate review by the usually reliable Trouser Press, "The brief, well-played songs have cool titles, but the lyrics are rarely as clever." And that was it. Trust me on this, kids. Back From Samoa is one of the all-time great punk/hardcore albums and is a must have for any serious lover of modern American music. Can't praise this enough. 1. Gas Chamber 2. The Todd Killings 3. Lights Out 4. My Old Man's A Fatso 5. Time Has Come Today 6. They Saved Hitler's Cock 7. Homo-Sexual 8. Steak Knife 9. Haizman's Brain Is Calling 10. Tuna Taco 11. Coffin Case 12. You Stupid Jerk 13. Ballad Of Jerry Curlan 14. Not Of This Earth

When I was 16 my band the Scum Bucket Punks got all the way to the finals in our local battle of the bands thanks to the Samoans influence over our young minds. Our cover of Homosexual was pretty great for a bunch of kids who had no musical experience or talent for that matter.
